Chanukah food can hold a lot of drama.
Latkes.
Doughnuts.
Oil.
And this year, it’s all happening alongside very real grief and shock after the horrific events at Bondi Beach — a reminder of the painful duality so many of us are holding right now.
Joy and sorrow.
Light and darkness.
Celebration and heartbreak — at the same time.
For many of my clients, this can add to the challenge of still showing up to nourish their bodies while wanting to enjoy this special time with their family and friends.
If you are feeling stuck in this, here’s something important to hold onto-
Enjoying Chanukah food does not cancel out the balanced habits you’re building in the background.
Eating regular meals, staying hydrated, including protein, vegetables, and carbs — all of that still matters, even when latkes and doughnuts are part of the picture.
You don’t need to give up caring for your body in order to enjoy the holiday.
And you don’t need to avoid holiday food to stay steady.
Both can exist at once — just like everything else we’re holding right now.
Have the latke.
Enjoy the doughnut.
Eat your normal meals.
Sit down.
Eat slowly.
When your foundations are in place, your body is far more resilient than you’ve been led to believe - and one latke or doughnut is not going to undo all the great choices you are making.
This Chanukah, test out how it feels to reduce the all-or-nothing thinking that is keeping you stuck from progressing to reach your weight and wellness goals.
That’s not “letting go.”
That’s building the consistency that actually leads to change.
