📖 What Will They Be Saying About What We Are Doing?
1. The History Behind the Verse
Mark 14:9 says:
“Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.”
This happened in Bethany, just a few days before Jesus’ crucifixion.
The Woman: John’s Gospel identifies her as Mary of Bethany, the sister of Martha and Lazarus.
The Act: She poured a costly perfume (worth about a year’s wages) on Jesus’ head (Mark 14:3) and feet (John 12:3).
The Reaction: Some disciples, especially Judas, criticized her: “Why wasn’t this sold and given to the poor?” (John 12:4–6).
Jesus’ Response: He defended her: “Let her alone… She hath done what she could… She is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.” (Mark 14:6–8).
Then He gave the promise: Her act of love would always be remembered wherever the gospel is preached.
👉 Lesson: A single act of love done for Christ can echo for eternity.
2. What Made Her Act So Memorable?
🧡 The Extravagance of Her Work
She gave her best and all — not leftovers.
💡 Application: Do we give Jesus our best years, energy, and resources, or only what’s convenient?
👥 The Expectations of Others
They thought her act was a waste.
💡 Application: Many won’t understand why we serve, sacrifice, or live differently for Christ. That’s okay.
⭐ The Exceptionalism of Her Work
It was public, personal, and praised by Jesus Himself.
💡 Application: What matters is not human applause, but Heaven’s approval.
⏳ The Extent of Her Work
“She hath done what she could.” (v.8)
She didn’t do everything, but she did what was in her power.
💡 Application: God doesn’t expect you to do what you can’t — but He does expect you to do what you can.
🌍 The Expanse of Her Work
Her act reached beyond her lifetime. It still speaks today.
💡 Application: Our works for Christ will outlive us. What legacy are we leaving?
3. Connecting Verses About a Godly Legacy
Hebrews 11:4 — “He being dead yet speaketh.” (Abel’s faith still speaks today.)
2 Timothy 4:7–8 — Paul said: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith… a crown of righteousness awaits.”
Hebrews 10:24 — “Let us provoke one another to love and good works.”
👉 Our faith, like Mary’s, can inspire others long after we’re gone.
4. The Eye-Opening Truth About Our Time
Life is short, opportunities pass quickly.
Mary acted before Jesus’ burial. If she had waited, it would have been too late.
She seized the moment while she had the chance.
What are we doing with the time God has given us?
Are we waiting for “someday” to serve Him, when the opportunity might already be gone?
Let us do what we can, while we can.
5. Final Challenge
Years from now…
What will they say about what we did for Jesus?
Will our lives be remembered as inspiring, motivating, and a lesson in love and sacrifice?
➡️ Like Mary, let us live so that our time, service, and sacrifices become a memorial that points others to Christ.
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last."

This week's challenging message is a challenge to every believer:
Are we just attending church or are we being the church?
A woman poured out everything she had, not for recognition but out of love for Jesus Christ.
How will your love for Jesus be remembered?
