Dry brushing has definitely become one of my favourite forms of self-care. And self-care itself is definitely a big part of my healing journey. πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹

Do you dry brush?

Dry brushing is a great form of detoxification. And detoxification is a crucial part of healing from Hashimotos.

Here are some of the benefits of dry brushing:
β€’ Supports the immune system

β€’ Stimulates your lymphatic system

β€’ Reduces stress

β€’ Improves circulation

β€’ Exfoliates skin

β€’ Reduces cellulite

I personally like to dry brush before I hop into the shower (and then take a rest afterwards).

You always want to move in upward motions towards your heart ❀️

Have you tried dry brushing?

MY WHY!!!!

I know some people look at someone who has lost weight, who is also a health coach and think they do it for vanity reasons. The TRUTH is I do it for my HEALTH!!!!
My motivation was (and still is) very clear, it is so I can be around for my children.

πŸ¦‹ I want to have the energy and strength to be INVOLVED in my children's lives.
πŸ¦‹ I want to be a constant ROLE MODEL for them.
πŸ¦‹ I want them to know that they are important enough for me to KEEP GOING, on my good days and even more so on my bad ones.

They are not the reason I can't workout. They are the reason I DO workout. They are the reason I got healthy and work hard everyday to STAY healthy.
They are the reason I choose to eat healthy and fill my plate (my literal and figurative) with good, nutrition-filled choices.
My children have taught me so much during their short lives and they are my continous motivators EVERYDAY, my reason to get up and keep going, not only for me but for THEM!!!! They motivate me to be my best self.

I am proud to call them mine!!!! They are my absolute blessings ❀️❀️❀️

What is your WHY???
(feel free to leave a comment)

For too many years I never imagined that I could be the person on the right. Full of energy, clear headed, full of life and confidence, both in my body and mind.
The person on the left was who I had become too used to being. Always exhausted (no matter how many hours I slept), crazy brain fog, inflamed, swollen, overweight (and this picture doesn't even represent how big I actually got before reaching out for help). I just FELT awful!!!! Like I was constantly failing at life, no matter how hard I tried.

But the worst part was that I hid it!!!
I hid how I was truly feeling.
I hid behind a smile, a mask and pretend positivity.

I felt ashamed for "always being sick".
I felt overwhelmed and frustrated.
And I truly missed who I used to be!!!

So today I am here to tell YOU that if you are feeling any of these feelings, KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!

*WELL ACTUALLY....
It is best to WAIT a minimum of 1 hour after taking your thyroid medication before having coffee!

I will admit straight out I am a BIG coffee lover and it would always be the first thing I had in the morning. Sometimes even taking my thyroid medication WITH my coffee. It took me a few years of learning and experience to realise that I wasn't helping myself, my body or my thyroid by doing that.

So why is it so important to wait an hour???
Drinking coffee affects the intestinal absorption of the thyroid medications, since it increases intestinal movement. We want the medication to have the time it needs to be absorbed, because the lower the absorption the less effective it will be.
So before you reach for that first cup of (very yummy) coffee let's give those thyroid meds a chance to do their job!!!
(also note that your thyroid meds should be taken on an empty stomach)

So how do we make this part of your daily routine???
For me: I set my alarm for 6am so that I can take my thyroid meds (which are in my side table right next to my bed) with some water (I also always have my water bottle next to me) and then when my kids leave for school around 7:30am I sit down in the peace and quite and have that first delicious cup of coffee!!! πŸ¦‹

Hi Beautiful Warriors πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹
I wanted to pop on today to share a VERY important message with you!!!!
In a society where we feel as if we always need to be "wearing a mask", pretending to okay, to always have a smile on our face, it is easy for us to feel guilt and shame when that mask falls.

I am here today to tell you a secret-something that shouldn't be a secret but that should be shouted from the rooftops: it is OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY!!!!

Part of being human is not always being okay.

I have seen it with my children, they wear that mask way too often, when they are around new people or in situations they are not comfortable in. I love knowing they have a place (our home) where they can let that mask drop and just relax. I myself have many times where I feel like it needs to wear that mask.

We need to give ourselves and our children permission to NOT feel guilty about those days we are not okay.

Let me say it again: IT IS OKAY NOT TO BE OKAY!

Hi Beautiful Warriors πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹
I know that dealing with a chronic disorder & managing everyday life can be challenging. I am reminded everytime I take a shower just how much a simple daily task can take away all your energy.

I have had to work very hard over the past few years to find a balance between pushing myself in order to achieve the things I want & KNOWING when to slow down in order to give my body the rest it needs.

BEAUTIFUL WARRIORS I am here today to say take the time!!!! Especially if you are at the beginning of your health journey, it is so important to be kind to yourself, take time to heal & surround yourself with people who love & respect you, & who are going to support you on your journey.

And to all you beautiful Warriors, remember to make yourself & your REST a priority!!! I know it might be difficult but it is so important for your mind, body & soul!

πŸ¦‹ My Hashimotos Story πŸ¦‹
For as long as I can remember I was always "sick", without too many answers as to why. Then in 2010 about 10 months after my 2nd baby was born, I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, was given meds and sent on my way.

2 years later and I was still struggling. I had gained a crazy amount of weight, was ALWAYS tired (no matter how much I slept), I was experiencing brain fog, sometimes even struggling to put full sentences together, migraines, and pain (so much PAIN!!!) and more......

After waaaayyyyy too many doctors appointments, and leaving each one feeling more and more desperate, frustrated and overwhelmed, I finally found a doctor who listened to ME (the PERSON sitting in front of her), who was willing to run the right tests, and that finally led to my Hashimotos diagnosis.

But again the diagnosis was not some magic answer, in fact it is almost like being given a destination but without a map to get there. And so once again I was sent on my way, being told to keep taking my thyroid meds and be "well".
So this time I decided to take my health into my own hands. I did my own research and learnt the right way to move forward DESPITE my diagnosis. I also learnt something HUGE!!!! Hashimotos is NOT a thyroid problem!!! It IS AN IMMUNE SYSTEM problem!!!

Today I have reversed 90% of my symptoms using nutrition, exercise, lifestyle and positive mindset and I am finally considered to be "in remission".

I am sharing this with you because I want you to know that no matter where you are on your healing journey, I see you, I hear you, I am you!!

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning how to dance in the rain"-Vivian Greene.

Hi beautiful Warriors,

I know how hard life can be, whether you are living with an autoimmune disorder or your children are special needs, I know that everyday life can sometimes feel impossible, like every little task is the hardest and most exhausting thing ever!!!! I know that it can feel like there is just too much to overcome in order to live a full life. It can sometimes feel like we are being taken away by a flood....

But I also KNOW that we can choose to look at things differently, that we can embrace all the good in our lives. Even the smallest thing can be the biggest WIN. We can remember that we are still standing, that we are choosing to fight for our health, for our children, for our lives. We are choosing to take back our lives one small action at a time!!!

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about finding ways to still enjoy life and discovering that you can still dance in the rain, even during a rainstorm.

We need to remember that to TRULY feel alive, we need to embrace all the seasons. Not everyday will be perfect but it is in those imperfect days, those imperfect moments where true magic can happen!!!

Don't confuse your path with your destination. Just because it's stormy now doesn't mean that you aren't heading for sunshine.

Everyday I wake up and choose to dance, even when the storms are trying their best to weigh me down or sweep me away. I choose to dance!!!!

"Self-care is giving the world the BEST of you, instead of what's LEFT of you"-Katie Reed

I know how hard it is to set aside time for ourselves, but it's a MUST!!!
It is a lesson that took me a long time (too long) to learn myself. I was trying for so long to give to others without giving to myself, that I landed up pouring from an empty cup (me). That is why I can say this without a doubt in my mind: no matter WHAT, you HAVE TO MAKE the time for self-care!

Here are a few things to remember when taking CARE of ONES-SELF:

πŸ¦‹ Remember that you are ENOUGH and to NOT compare YOUR journey to anyone elses!

πŸ¦‹ Set LIMITS!

πŸ¦‹ Take a nap!

πŸ¦‹ View food as an ALLY, not the enemy!

πŸ¦‹ Move your body, by doing what feels right for YOU!

πŸ¦‹ Find the things you love to do and what helps you to feel good and make them part of your everyday life!

I've H A T E D this woman...

Actually, I've not loved her well for most of her life.

I've fed her lies and told her she wasn't good enough and have allowed others to tell her she isn't good enough.

I've allowed her to be broken. I've allowed others to treat her disrespectfully. I've allowed her to run through brick walls and battle for others who won't even stand for her.

I couldn't stop others from abandoning her, but I've seen her stand up and be a light for the world and love others despite all that.

I have stood paralyzed by fear while she fought battles in her mind, heart and soul.

This woman has screwed up the many times as a partner, as a daughter, as a mother and as a friend because she didn't think she was worthy of self love or the love of others.

She has a smart mouth, a stubborn streak, and she has secrets. She has scars because she has a history. She has so, so many scars...

Some people love this woman, some like her, and some don't care for her at all... But she is beginning to love herself.

She has done good in her life, she has done not so good in her life.

Every mistake, failure, trial, disappointment, success, joy and achievement has made her into who she is today.

You can love her or not---but if she loves you she will do it with her whole heart.

She is dramatic and sometimes she is scatter-brained. She will not pretend to be who she is not. She will make no apologies for who she is. Never will she again.

This woman is a WARRIOR.
She's not perfect, but she has a lot of WORTH.
She's UNSTOPPABLE.

Gracefully broken, but beautifully standing.

She is LOVE.
She is LIFE.
She is TRANSFORMATION.
She is GRACE.
She is BRAVE.
.. and she will never stop learning or moving forward...

She is me ......

SELF-CARE!!!!
Let's talk about it!!!!
I know a lot of us have this idea in our head that self-care is getting a massage or having our nails done (which believe me I agree it can be) but there is also so much more to self-care!!!

FIRSTLY we need to LOSE the idea that self-care=selfish. Self-care is actually one of the greatest forms of self-love there is. Self-care is in fact one of the most selfless and important things we can do. How are we meant to be there for ourselves or others if we are walking around on empty? Fill your own cup just as you would fill others.

SECONDLY self-care can look different for each person and it can look different for one person at different times in their life.
Sometimes self-care is about what we WANT:
Pampering ourselves in ways that are enjoyable.... getting a massage, a manicure, a facial, reading, going to the beach (although in all honesty for me the beach is a want and a NEED!). Really anything you find enjoyable.
But know that sometimes self-care is about what your body NEEDS.
Getting enough sleep (7 to 8 hours a night), eating a healthy, nutrition-filled meal, staying hydrated, getting in the right kind of vitamins, going to an important doctor's appointment, having a much needed medical test done.....

There are so many ways and forms of self-care, find the ones that speak to you and feel right for YOU.
Self-care is really about learning to LISTEN to your body πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹
