Self treatment is a major goal in PT treatment.
- give patient control over their symptoms.
- improve self efficacy.
- facilitate life change
The learning process starts with setting a goal, SNAG or MWM to demonstrate to the patient that he can move pain free.
- demonstrate self treatment
- let patient experience and learn through implicit learning.
- self treatment should be taught when patient is still symptomatic to allow feedback on outcome.
- set the main goal of pain free movement and let the patient explore till success.
- give feedback on demand
- capture a clip of the patient performing when correct successful self Rx is achieved
- let patient reflect before you correct.
- repeat.
