The first partial knee replacement surgeries in Israel have been performed at Ichilov - a procedure in which only the damaged compartment of the joint is replaced while preserving healthy tissue. This technique is carried out using the VELYS™ robotic system developed by Johnson & Johnson.
Partial knee replacement is suitable for patients with localized cartilage degeneration in a single compartment of the joint, allowing surgeons to maintain healthy areas and avoid injury to ligaments or unaffected structures.
The VELYS™ robotic system enables surgeons to plan and perform the procedure with high precision based on each patient’s anatomical characteristics. The technology supports a minimally invasive approach, reducing incision size and preserving as much of the natural knee structure as possible.
The introduction of this technology into Ichilov’s clinical practice is expected to expand the use of partial knee replacement among eligible patients and offer a more precise, gentle, and effective treatment option for localized cartilage degeneration.

INVASIVE CPET is one of the most advanced methods for diagnosing the causes of shortness of breath during physical exertion, available in Israel exclusively at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov).
This method combines an exercise test with right-heart catheterization, allowing real-time assessment of heart and lung function, as well as the detection of abnormalities that cannot be identified through standard tests such as echocardiography, spirometry, or chest CT.
The procedure is performed under a joint protocol between the cardiology and pulmonology departments, ensuring a comprehensive and highly accurate diagnostic approach. The test helps identify hidden pulmonary hypertension, circulatory disorders, and other causes of unexplained exertional dyspnea.
Thanks to cutting-edge technologies and a multidisciplinary approach, patients receive precise diagnoses and personalized treatment without long waiting times.
This makes INVASIVE CPET an important step forward in diagnosing complex cardiopulmonary conditions and significantly improves the quality of care for patients from Israel and abroad.

When a patient is diagnosed with lymphoma, it is essential to be treated at a center where clinical expertise is combined with modern technologies. At Ichilov Hospital, lymphoma care is managed by an experienced team of hemato-oncologists working within one of Israel’s leading oncology departments. Here, accurate diagnostics and a well-planned therapeutic strategy - tailored to the subtype and characteristics of the disease - play a central role.
The hemato-oncology center treats both Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Diagnostics include biopsy, PET-CT, molecular testing, and assessment of the lymphatic system - everything necessary to quickly determine the correct treatment direction.
Treatment methods are selected individually and may include modern chemotherapy protocols, next-generation targeted therapies, immunotherapy, high-precision radiotherapy, and bone marrow transplantation. Transplantation at the clinic is performed in sterile HEPA-filtered isolation rooms, which is particularly important for patients during periods of immune suppression.
A comprehensive approach, involvement of a multidisciplinary team, and meticulous monitoring at every stage make Ichilov Hospital one of the key centers worldwide for patients seeking safe and advanced lymphoma treatment.

A new recycling station for plastic and glass bottles has been installed at the hospital, located in the plaza between the Arison Tower and the Sammy Ofer Building. This marks another step in expanding the recycling program that has been operating at Ichilov for the past three years.
Every year, the hospital collects around 9 tons of plastic, yet the potential is much higher: dozens of bottles are thrown into regular waste bins daily, even though they can be recycled. The new station makes recycling easier and helps keep the hospital cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
Recycling is only one part of the hospital’s broad sustainability strategy. Ichilov has already received a sustainability award from the Tel Aviv - Jaffa Municipality. Among its flagship projects is a natural-gas-based cogeneration system that enables the hospital to produce its own electricity, chilled water for air conditioning, and steam - significantly reducing resource consumption.

The Hematology Department at Ichilov has opened the first multidisciplinary amyloidosis clinic in Israel.
Amyloidosis is a rare condition that is difficult to recognize in its early stages: abnormal proteins accumulate in the heart, kidneys, nervous system, and gastrointestinal tract, causing symptoms that resemble other diseases.
Now patients can undergo comprehensive diagnostics and receive treatment in one place - simultaneously from specialists in three fields: hematology, cardiology, and nephrology.
Early diagnosis is critically important: the specific type of amyloid determines the treatment strategy, prognosis, and the patient’s quality of life.
The clinic is led by Dr. Tamir Shargai (Head of the Amyloidosis Service), Professor Michael Laufer-Perl (senior cardiologist and heart failure expert), and Dr. Dalit Zaltzer-Gottler (senior nephrologist).
The clinic operates as part of the Myeloma Center headed by Professor Yael Cohen and is integrated into the hematology division of Professor Ilit Avivi, bringing together expertise and resources to provide accurate and well-coordinated care for patients.

Ichilov has performed its first-ever surgery using innovative smart glasses that allow real-time broadcasting of everything happening in the operating room. The system simultaneously captures three sources: the surgeon’s point of view, the medical equipment, and all visualizations, including X-ray and microscope imaging.
The high-quality live broadcast enables physicians around the world to watch the procedure, learn, and consult online. Ichilov is the first medical center in Israel to implement this technology for professional webinars in advanced interventional endoscopy.
The first procedure was carried out by the Gastroenterology Institute team, which included Dr. Dana Ben-Ami, Erwin Santo, Tali Malkin-Deskal, Mohammad Abu Saif, and anesthesiologist Dr. Vadim Nisanovich.
This new technology marks an important step forward for medicine and professional training.

At Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov), patients have access to chemotherapy based on international protocols, delivered within the hospital’s professional Oncology Department. This is one of the center’s leading areas, where treatment is conducted strictly in accordance with medical standards.
Chemotherapy regimens are selected individually, taking into account the tumor type, stage of the disease, comorbidities, and the effectiveness of prior treatments. When necessary, chemotherapy is combined with targeted and immunotherapy agents, as well as with surgical or radiation treatments.
Throughout the entire course, patients undergo thorough monitoring, including laboratory tests, imaging studies (CT, MRI, PET-CT), and assessment of side effects and disease progression. This approach ensures both safety and maximum therapeutic effectiveness.
Ichilov Clinic remains one of Israel’s leading centers where patients receive thoughtful, modern, and professional oncologic care supported by the latest therapeutic solutions.

🤖 The rehabilitation hospital at Ichilov has launched a new robotic Lokomat system - an innovative technology with a computerized exoskeleton that helps patients practice walking with precision, safety, and personalized adjustment.
The technology is suitable for patients after stroke, spinal cord injuries, severe orthopedic and neurological conditions, cerebral palsy, as well as individuals injured during military operations. Every week, dozens of patients will be able to undergo more effective rehabilitation.
According to Professor Eli Sprecher, this equipment is an important tool that can significantly improve recovery outcomes for patients with severe injuries.
The project became possible thanks to a donation from the Friendship Foundation and the support of the Ichilov Friends Association. The equipment is already in use as part of the hospital’s standard rehabilitation programs.
