🤟 You've probably heard of the term 'splint' being thrown around. But what exactly is a splint?

💪 A splint is a type of immobilization device that is often used to stop a joint (or multiple joints) from being moved.

🤲 There are many reasons why you may need to wear one of these. In the case of Trigger Finger, wearing a splint is recommended to prevent motion at the joint which is causing the 'trigger' - the 'clicking' or 'popping' sensation you feel when straightening your finger.

👩‍⚕️There are a few types of splints you can wear. Your hand therapist may recommend you to wear a splint for the day and also at night! You can see Regina making a day splint here on our Instagram:

🏋️ A splint is used alongside exercises to help heal the injury and is usually not used as a stand-alone treatment.

🤟If Trigger Finger has been bothering you, then its time to take care of the problem!

🤲 Trigger Finger most commonly affects the middle, ring finger and thumb.

❗It can become most bothersome first thing in the morning and when you are trying to do your day to day activities.

🔥 Though Trigger Finger can be quite difficult to treat, you can find some handy (pun intended) exercises here on our Instagram:

👊 It may also be helpful to wear a splint when going about your day to day and at night.

📱If your pain isn't relieved by these exercises, or continues for more than 2 weeks - give us a call or just text us at +972556874408, and we'll help you sort it!

☝️Do you ever bend your finger and then it's hard to straighten it again? You could have a Trigger Finger. A Trigger Finger occurs when the Flexor Tendon of your finger develops a nodule, which makes it hard for the tendon to glide underneath the A1 pulley of your hand.

🖐️ Thats a lot of info, right? Let's break it down.

🟠 Each finger has tendons which attach to the bone and make each joint bend.

🔵 Running along the tendons are pulleys: a kind of ligament designed to keep the tendon attached to the bone. Kind of like the loops on a fishing rod which keep the write attached to the rod.

🟠 A hard nodule can develop either on the tendon sheath or the pulley, making it difficult for the tendon to pass underneath. Hence the 'snap' or 'click' you may feel when the nodule passes underneath the pulley.

Think you may have this? Here is how you can usually tell:
🟠 Do you have a tender 'lump' at the based of your finger in your palm? Thats that nodule we were talking about.
🔵 Do you get a 'snap' or a 'click' when you move your finger? Thats the nodule passing under the pulley.
🟠Do you have pain when you bend or straighten your finger?

😣 If you answered yes, the likelihood is that you have a trigger finger.

📱If you suspect you do have a Trigger Finger, then it is strongly recommended you get this taken care of! Feel free to give us a call or just text us at +972556874408, and we can help you figure it out.

🦶Have you heard of Plantar Fasciitis? Its not very pleasant!

👣 The Plantar Fascia is the layer of tissue on the bottom of your foot which connects your heel to your toes.

❗Pain in this area usually indicates inflammation of this fibrous tissue!

Usual symptoms include:
🟠Stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot, near the heel.
🔵Pain is usually triggered when walking or standing.
🟠Pain is particularly painful in your first steps after waking.

🔥Pain in the bottom of your foot isn't something to be ignored! If you have pain, it is strongly recommended you seek out physiotherapy treatment so that the fascia doesn't rip!

We know right now is stressful. Constant stress can put your body in a state of anxiety, creating various different side effects to your body.

We wanted to give you some simple tips and ways to try and reduce your anxiety and activate your Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS).

Often termed the 'Rest and Digest Response' (as opposed to the Fight or Flight response), activating your PNS can help reduce pain and anxiety.

Some simple things you can do include:

1️⃣ Exercising
2️⃣ Breathing
3️⃣ Soft massage to the face
4️⃣ Making time for you

It's important for you to try and make time to do even some of these things to help your body relax.

We want to wish everyone a calm weekend and hope you are all staying safe.

😣 Poor neck positioning during gym workouts can lead to neck pain and headaches.

😓 Some examples of poor neck positioning during exercise include:

1️⃣Looking up during workouts
2️⃣Looking down during workouts.
3️⃣Swinging from your neck when lifting heavier weights.

😜 We included some tips on how to avoid poor neck technique in our previous post, however, another way is to strengthen your neck muscles.

You can find some great exercises on our Instagram post here: https://bit.ly/3feZVW1

🤦🏼‍♀️(Disclaimer - Regina didn't do a fabulous job with her plank - oops! Do as she says, and not as she does).

💪These starter exercises should help strengthen your neck, however, the real trick is to develop good posture during exercise.

📱If you're still having pain during exercise, then you may need an evaluation and hands on therapy. Feel free to give us a call or send us a message on +972556874408.

Do you get a sore neck at the gym? 😢

You're not the only one. In fact, this is quite a common occurrence! 🤔

The reason is a simple one: you're probably using your neck muscles more than you should during exercise 🏋️‍♀️. Often, this is because people decide to go up a heavier weight group when they're not ready or push themselves beyond what their bodies can handle 👎.

What can you do about this? There are a few things:
1️⃣Try a lower weight group, but with higher reps.
2️⃣ Exercise in front of a mirror to make sure you're maintaining a good posture.
3️⃣ Do some exercises to strengthen your neck.

Still not sure what we're talking about when we say good neck posture? No worries - we'll show you in our next post, and will even include some videos of how to strengthen your neck muscles 💪! Stay tuned!

As a result of this, often the nerves of the hand and forearm become squashed between muscles and swelling along their pathways, creating a nerve injury that can create muscle weakness.

The muscles of the upper limb are not designed to hold specific positions for a long time, nor to do the same activity repetitively.

If they are constantly performing the same tasks (working against their design), they release an acid waste bi-product in specific areas that signal pain, muscle spasm and tenderness as a way to signal the need to stop the aggravating activity.

As a result of this, often the nerves of the hand and forearm become squashed between muscles and swelling along their pathways, creating a nerve injury which can create muscle weakness.
