We invite you to read the recent article covering our IFPA webinar, where our Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Gary Ward, and Global Business Development team member, Ivo Tunchel addressed the principles of Modified Atmosphere Packaging and its real world impact.

The webinar centered on a critical challenge facing growers, exporters, and distributors worldwide: how to preserve fresh produce quality during the complex journey from harvest to market. From bloom preservation in blueberries to season extension of premium grapes, the discussion revealed how well designed packaging solutions can address real life challenges in the fresh produce industry.

What resonated most was the systems approach: Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) technology works best when combined with quality produce and good postharvest handling, in particular cooling and good cold chain management. The practical results speak volumes: cherry shipments from Chile to China that maintain stem freshness over 25-day sea journeys, broccoli transport that eliminates the need for ice while freeing up 66% more container space, and blueberries that preserve their natural bloom for over 45 days.

The dynamic Q&A session - with questions spanning turmeric root to avocados to sugar plums - highlighted the industry's strong interest in innovative postharvest solutions that preserve quality, reduce waste and expand market opportunities.

A big thank you to International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) for hosting yesterday's webinar on "How Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) Extends Shelf-Life of Fresh Produce."

We had the pleasure of sharing insights with attendees from across the region on the importance of good postharvest handling and the role of MAP in preserving the quality of fresh produce throughout the supply chain. We presented real-life case studies demonstrating how MAP extends the shelf life of blueberries, cherries, broccoli, and grapes—with measurable benefits in quality preservation, waste reduction, season extension, and enabling sea freight to distant markets.

The quality of the questions we received reflected a high level of interest and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Asia’s fresh produce supply chains, as well as how solutions like MAP can make a meaningful contribution.

We greatly appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the conversation on postharvest technology and look forward to continuing these discussions.
