When I see patients of Diabetes Mellitus with advanced kidney disease I frequently face question by them - We did not have any kidney problems all those years, how did this come up now ?

But the painful fact remains that they did not get investigated before.

Patients with diabetes mellitus are considered as very high risk for kidney disease.

Hence it is recommended that they get those 2 tests checked (once they are diagnosed with diabetes and after that every year)

1. Kidney Function Test
2. Urine routine and microscopy

Since symptoms of kidney diseases are seen only after significant kidney damage , these simple and affordable tests can detect early kidney disease caused by diabetes.

Once any abnormality in the test result is seen , early consultation with the Nephrologist is recommended before the disease progresses to advanced stage. Early diagnosis makes way for early treatment and control of disease.

Remember - If you have diabetes, yearly kidney function test + urine test is recommended.
