The “National Animal Well-being Summit” themed ‘Convergence for a Healthier Tomorrow’ was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at India Habitat Centre, Delhi on 19th November 2025. The summit brought together policymakers, academicians, industry leaders, pet food manufacturers, NGOs, start-ups, digital media etc. working in the animal health space.
Dr Arun Atrey, Chairman, National Task Force on Animal Health and Nutrition, CII and Managing Director & CEO, Zenex Animal Health, during his welcome address said that the scale and significance of India’s animal ecosystems demand a unified, science-led, and future-ready approach. He further added that animal wellbeing is integral to public health, food safety, climate resilience, and sustainable economic growth. Keynote address was delivered by Dr Praveen Malik, CEO, Agriinnovate, I/c Animal Husbandry Commissioner, in which he urged for better collaboration of government, regulators and industry to help find more practical solutions to problems faced by all the stakeholders.
The conference had five sessions on various topics viz. Animal Health Industry and Its Role in National Economics and Atmanirbhar Bharat; Reforms and Digital Solutions for Animal Health; Driving Companion Animal Health; India’s Rise as a Global Hub for Animal Health Excellence; and The Role of Alternate Medicine in Veterinary Science. Each of the sessions had leading subject matter experts who shared their knowledge creating the sessions insightful for all attendees and participants.
During the first session, Dr Atrey as a moderator emphasized on regulatory challenges, fostering self-reliance through indigenous R&D and exploring export potential of animal health products. Other panellist of the session included Dr Praveen Malik, Dr A. Visala, Joint Drugs Controller CDSCO and Dr K Anand Kumar, Managing Director, IIL. Dr Malik spoke on technical collaborations with institutes and government’s keenness to provide required support to the industry. Dr Visala talked about the regulatory framework and department’s eagerness to help support the industry within the regulatory framework. Whereas, Dr Anand shared the journey of Indian Immunologicals and its contribution in prevention of epidemic diseases like FMD.
Dr. Sumit Joshi, Head-Clinical Research from Zenex Animal Health was invited as a panellist in the concluding session on alternative medicine, during which he shared his views on scientific evidence and validation of clinical trials.
The conference aimed to amplify dialogue, exchange knowledge, and forge partnerships that can translate animal health policies into measurable progress on the ground.
