CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE (HPV VACCINE)

- Protects against human papillomavirus (HPV)
- Recommended for girls above the age of 9 years
- Can be given up to age 45 years
- Safe and effective
- Prevents:
- 70-90% of cervical
cancers & other HPV-related diseases like ge***al warts, vulvar, vaginal and a**l cancers
- Typically given in a series of 2-3 doses
- Most effective when given before exposure to HPV (usually before sexual activity)
- Protects against HPV types 16 and 18, which cause 70-80% of cervical cancers
- Also protects against HPV types 6 and 11, which cause 90% of ge***al warts
- May be given in a 2-dose or 3-dose schedule, depending on age of the child
- Approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
