Jaw deformities range from mild abnormalities to more severe defects in the upper and lower jaw bones that can be surgically corrected. Individuals with jaw abnormalities have both functional and aesthetic impairment. They may have difficulty in chewing, swallowing, breathing while sleeping at night(obstructive sleep apnoea) as well as unclear speech. Affected individuals may also experience TMJ pain or have psychological problems.

Motor vehicle accidents and falls are major causes of Maxillofacial injuries and trauma which are quite commonly seen in any emergency department. Varying from simple, common nasal fractures to gross communition of the face, management of such injuries can be extremely challenging.
Please wear helmet or seat belt while driving to avoid such injuries.
