માથા પરના વાળ મનુષ્યના ચહેરા અને વ્યક્તિત્વનું એક મહત્વનું પાસું છે. એટલે જ પત્યેક વ્યક્તિ ખૂબ નાની ઉંમરથી કાળજીપૂર્વક વાળની માવજત કરતો હોય છે અને એની મદદથી પોતાની સુંદરતામાં વધારો કરવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરતો હોય છે. વાળના જથ્થામાં થતા ઘટાડાથી અથવા તો ટાલ પડવાથી વ્યક્તિની યૌવનસભર સુંદરતામાં ઘટાડો થાય છે. આજની વ્યવસાયલક્ષી જીવન-પદ્ધતિમાં સામેના માણસ પર થતી વ્યક્તિત્વની પ્રથમ અસર પણ અગત્યનો ભાગ ભજવે છે. એટલે વાળના ઓછા થવાથી વ્યક્તિના આત્મવિશ્વાસમાં પણ ઘટાડો થાય છે. આ બાબતની સભાનતાને કારણે જ આજે વિશ્વભરમાં હેર ટ્રાન્સપ્લાન્ટેશન પ્રોસીજર કરાવનારાની સંખ્યામાં ધરખમ વધારો થયો છે.
જો પુરુષને ટાલ હોય તો મોટા ભાગે તે વારસાગત 'મેલ પેટર્ન બાલ્ડનેસ' હોય છે. આ પ્રકારની ટાલ વયવૃદ્ધિ, અંત:સ્ત્રાવની અસર અને જનીનના પ્રભાવનું પરિણામ હોય છે. આજકાલ નાની ઉંમરે ટાલ પડવાનું પ્રમાણ વધતું જોવા મળે છે. લોકો ટાલને છુપાવવા કે ઢાંકવા જાતજાતની યુક્તિ-પ્રયુક્તિ અજમાવે છે. ઘણા સમય અને પૈસાનો વ્યય પણ કરે છે. ટાલ પર વાળ ઉગાડવાના જાતજાતના નુસખા અજમાવે છે પરંતુ જે જગ્યાએ વાળનાં મૂળ હોતાં જ નથી ત્યાં નવા વાળ ઉગાડી શકાતા જ નથી. આથી જ ઘણાં બધા લોકોને, જે પધ્ધતિ કાયમી અને કુદરતી વાળથી ટાલને દૂર કરે છે એવી હેર ટ્રાન્સપ્લાન્ટ પ્રોસીજરની પસંદગી કરવી વધારે યોગ્ય લાગે છે.
માથાની બાજુએ અને પાછળ રહેલા વાળના વિસ્તારને 'પરમેનન્ટ ઝોન' કહેવામાં આવે છે કારણકે આ વિસ્તારના વાળ કાયમી હોય છે અને એના પર ટાલ પડવા માટે જવાબદાર જનીન પ્રક્રિયાની અસર થતી નથી. આ વિસ્તારના વાળને જયારે ટાલવાળા વિસ્તારમાં રોપવામાં આવે છે ત્યારે તે તેની મૂળભૂત લાક્ષણીકતાઓ કાયમ માટે ટકાવી રાખે છે.
હેર ટ્રાન્સપ્લાન્ટની આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય કક્ષાની આધુનિક 'ફોલીક્યુલર યુનીટ એક્સટ્રેક્શન' (FUE) પધ્ધતિમાં માથાની બંને બાજુ અને પાછળના વિસ્તારના વાળને વિશિષ્ટ ઉપકરણની મદદથી તેનાં મૂળ સાથે કાઢી લેવામાં આવે છે. મૂળ સાથેનાં વાળનાં આ એકમોનું ટાલવાળા વિસ્તારમાં આરોપણ કરવામાં આવે છે.
વાળના પ્રત્યારોપણની આધુનિક 'ફોલીક્યુલર યુનીટ એક્સટ્રેક્શન' (FUE) પધ્ધતિ ખૂબ જ અસરકારક તેમ જ આર્થિક રીતે પણ સાનુકૂળ છે. આ પદ્ધતિ, વ્યક્તિને બેભાન કર્યા વગર માત્ર જરૂરી ભાગને બહેરો કરીને જ કરવામાં આવે છે. વાળનાં ૩૦૦૦ એકમોનું પ્રત્યારોપણ માત્ર એક જ દિવસમાં, કલીનીકમાં રાત્રી રોકાણ કર્યા વગર શક્ય બને છે. એક પણ ટાંકો લીધા વિના થતી આ પદ્ધતિમાં જ્યાંથી વાળ લેવામાં આવે છે ત્યાં થતાં ખૂબ નાનાં છિદ્રો પાંચ જ દિવસમાં રુઝાઈ જાય છે અને તે જગ્યાએ ભવિષ્યમાં દેખાય એવો કોઈ ઘાવ રહેતો નથી.
હેર ટ્રાન્સપ્લાન્ટ - વાળના પ્રત્યારોપણની આધુનિક પદ્ધતિ દ્વારા વ્યક્તિ પોતાના જ, કાયમી, કુદરતી રીતે વધતા, વિશેષ સાર-સંભાળથી મુક્ત એવા વાળ પાછા મેળવી શકે છે, આવા વાળને પહેલાની જેમ જ સામાન્ય રીતે ધોવાની, ઓળવાની અને કાપવાની જરૂર રહે છે. "ટાલ પડવાનું કારણ વારસાગત હોઈ શકે છે પરંતુ ટાલવાળા રહેવાનું કારણ વારસગત નથી." એ આજના જમાનાની હકીકત છે.

Someone asked me, “Why have you changed the spelling of ‘Cosmetic’ to ‘Kosmatik’?”
I replied, “That is what a plastic surgeon does. –he changes the form. And if it is kosmetik in Germany, why can’t it be kosmatik in India?!
He said, “But ‘C’ is more appropriate as it represents Curves. It appears more natural. ‘K’ has straight lines and you know, Nature does not believe in straight lines.
I said, “You are correct but here the ‘Ks’ represents Knowledge and Knife.
He questioned, “Don’t you think that the relationship between beauty and blade is unreasonable?”
I said, “No, not at all. Human beings have been using instruments for self- adornment since Stone Age. They have used and have been using stretching of neck and lips, scarification, ear, nose and lip piercing, tattooing to look more beautiful.
He continued arguing, “But improving beauty by cosmetic surgery is not just natural.”
I told him, “What you are saying is ridiculous and out of date. Can you imagine a nearsighted person refusing to get glasses because they are “unnatural”? Have you ever heard someone boast that their crooked teeth give them “character”? Or that their hearing problem is part of their “personality”? Like crooked teeth, lousy eyesight or poor hearing, it is just as easy to be born with a nose that is too big, a chin that is too small or breasts that never develop. There is no need to blame yourself if you were born with something you are unhappy with. There is nothing wrong with correcting it. Lots of people feel Mother Nature could have done a better job."
He commented, “When all is said and done, beauty is only skin deep.”
And I quoted Jean Kerr. “I am tired of all the nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That’s deep enough. What do you want-an adorable pancreas?”
