Even after over six decades of India's independence, most of its villages have not been provided with the basic needs of life i.e. complete sanitation, emergency healthcare, efficient energy and drinking water, competitive education, and sustainable employment facilities. Most of our villagers have remained under Below Poverty Line (BPL) and unless we bring them up to a compatible level of development similar to our urban areas, we can not achieve sustainable growth in our country. Back Through School is a concept for citizens to become part of the country's developmental actions through their respective schools. The idea is to engage the schools' alumni association in to taking up responsibility of developing at least five villages in their respective states by adopting those villages. The objective of adopting these villages is to help the villages in achieving the basic needs of life within some defined time period. Back Through School envisages that the school alumni associations can help the villagers in developing them up to a professional level and make the village completely BPL free within a defined time frame. This small challenge if taken up by the alumni association, can certainly mark a tremendous impact and difference on the India's development model. Schools' primary role is to build citizens. And, schools can be used in a way as change leaders to motivate and connect the citizens in form of alumni associations which can contribute as a group of responsible citizens to look after India's development using the medium of participatory governance.
