રાજ્યમાં નેત્રદાન અંગે વધી રહેલા જાગૃતિને પગલે મોટી સંખ્યામાં ગુજરાતીઓ નેત્રદાન કરવા માટે જાગૃત થયા છે. ગુજરાતમાં આ જાગૃતિને કારણે આખા દેશમાં ફાયદો થઈ રહ્યો છે. લોકોની દ્રષ્ટિની સમસ્યા દૂર કરવા માટે કાર્યરત રાષ્ટ્રીય કાર્યક્રમના આંકડાઓ પ્રમાણે ગત વર્ષે રાજ્યમાં નેત્રદાન કરનારાની સંખ્યા બમણી થઈ ગઈ છે. જો કે આ કાર્યક્રમના પગલે દેશના 23 રાજ્યોમાંથી ગુજરાત અને તામિલનાડુના આંકડાઓ સૌથી વધારે પ્રોત્સાહક છે.

નેશનલ આઇ ડોનેશનમાંમાં 44304 આંખો દાનમાં આવી હતી જ્યારે નિર્ધારિત લક્ષ્યાંક 57655 હતો. ગુજરાતમાં 9291 આંખોનું દાન એકઠું થયું હતુ જ્યારે નિર્ધારિત લક્ષ્યાંક 4000નો હતો. આ સામે તામિલનાડુમાં કુલ 10197 આંખોનું દાન કરાયું હતું. જો કે મહત્વની વાત એ છે કે, રાજ્યમાં મોટી સંખ્યામાં યુવાનો પણ નેત્રદાન માટેના શપથ લઈ રહ્યા છે.

This number may rise to 90% in underdeveloped parts of the world.
