Annual conference of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine concludes
ALIGARH, October 28: The 21st Annual Conference of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) UP-Uttarakhand Chapter concluded with a valedictory function during which awards and prizes were distributed by the chief guest, Prof Hematram Yadav (Department of Community Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, MAHSA University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and Prof M H Beg, Pro Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
The two day conference was organized by the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), AMU.
Prof Deoki Nandan Memorial Award for the best oral paper presentation during the conference was given to Dr Safia from JNMC, AMU, while Dr Dhanajay Singh from Heritage Medical College, Varanasi bagged Prof VP Shrotia Memorial Award for the best poster presentation.
Best thesis award was presented to Dr Anshumali Singh from SN Medical College, Agra, while the best paper publication award was given to Dr Ashok K Srivastava from Himalyan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun.
IAPSM 'World Breastfeeding Week-2018' awards were also announced on the occasion. Department of Community Medicine, LLRM Medical College, Meerut bagged the first position and Department of Community Medicine, School of Medical Sciences & Research (SMSR), Sharda University, Noida secured second position.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Hematram Yadav congratulated the organizing committee and faculty members for organizing a successful conference on strengthening health care system and actively taking part in deliberations. Prof Yadav a Malaysian national also talked about his connections to Mathura and Aligarh region.
Presiding over the function Prof MH Beg (Pro Vice Chancellor) said that community medicine is a highly vibrant department. He said we should increase outreach programme and adopt a holistic approach so that spread of communicable and non-communicable diseases is prevented and underprivileged class is benefitted.
Dr Ali Amir (Organising Chairman and Chairman, Department of Community Medicine) said that there is demographic transition in society and lack of wide health care infrastructure is a problem that needs to be addressed. "Public health care system should be strengthened so that health benefit reaches the common people", he said.
Guest of honour Dr Rehan Farooq (Vice Chairman, FH Medical College Trust, Agra) said that community medicine is the backbone of health care system and such conferences provide an opportunity to learn from each other.
In his welcome Dr M Athar Ansari (Organising Secretary) said that experts from the field of Community Medicine and Public Health came together from all over the country and abroad to deliberate on an important topic which will immensely benefit the participants.
Dr Saira Mehnaz (Co-Organising Secretary) conducted the programme, while Dr Ali Jafar Abedi (Treasurer) presented a vote of thanks.
Dr Anand Mohan Dixit (Secretary, IAPSM, UP and UK Chapter), Dr PK Jain (President, IAPSM, UP & UK Chapter) and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
