When one of the two eyes gets Disfigured/damaged due to injury or disease, the facial beauty and total personality of the person 'is badly affected, The affected person shies away from the society. The person so affected becomes introvert and pessimist. The entire personality of the affected person can be restored by the provision of a property fitting artificial eye which resembles closely to the other eye of the affected person. Shanno Rani and Dr. Devendra Kumar realised the difficulties and Sufferings of one eyed persons and decided to make artificial eyes to closely resemble with the good eye so that onlookers may not be able to see any difference in two eyes and the affected person may lead a happy normal life. Shanno Rani: Did her post graduation from Agra University and visited U.K. in 1962 to learn the art of making Custom made cosmetic lenses and artificial eyes. She worked with Mr. Laser a renowned eye maker in London and visited the Government centre in England making artificial eyes. She also visited renowned centers in U.S.A. associated with artificial eye work. She paid visits to these centers several time to upgrade the technology. The process was modified to suit our tropical climate. Dr. Devendra Kumar had graduated form U.K. in 1956 in the art of making and fitting contact lenses and started the first centre in the country in 1957. He also, joined Mrs. Shanno Rani in making and fitting of artificial eyes. He kept himself abreast with the latest developments by visiting centers in U.K., U.S.A. and Japan from time to time. He is in association with, others wrote a book on cosmetic lenses & artificial eyes which was published in 1981. To day there are more than 35,000 satisfied & happy wearers of cosmetic shells & artificial eyes in India. Patients have also come from Nepal, Lanka and Middle East to mention a few places outside Indian.
