ശബ്ദങ്ങളുടെ ലോകത്തേക്ക് സ്വന്തം ശബ്ദത്തിൽ ആഞ്ചലോയെ ക്ഷണിച്ച് മമ്മൂട്ടി; കാതോട് കാതോരം ആദ്യ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വിജയകരം.
"മോനെ ആഞ്ചലോ, ഞാൻ മമ്മൂട്ടിയാണ്. സിനിമയിലൊക്കെ അഭിനയിക്കുന്ന, ടിവിയിലൊക്കെ കാണുന്ന മമ്മൂക്ക. നന്നായി പഠിക്കണം, മിടുക്കനായി വളരണം..." ഇത്രയും കാലം നിശബ്ദമായിരുന്ന അവൻ്റെ കുഞ്ഞുലോകത്തേക്ക് ആ ശബ്ദമെത്തി. അതുകേട്ട് ആഞ്ചലോയ്ക്ക് ആദ്യം അമ്പരപ്പ്. അവൻ ജീവിതത്തിലാദ്യമായി ഒരു മനുഷ്യശബ്ദം കേൾക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അതാകട്ടെ ആ ഇളംകാതുകളെ കിളിയൊച്ചകളുടെയും താരാട്ടുപാട്ടുകളുടെയും ലോകത്തേക്ക് തുറന്നിട്ടുകൊടുത്തയാളുടെ ശബ്ദവും.

ഇടുക്കി ചെമ്മണ്ണാർ സ്വദേശികളായ ജെയ്‌സൺ-ആൻഷ ദമ്പതികളുടെ നാല് വയസ്സുകാരനായ മകൻ ആഞ്ചലോയ്ക്ക് ഇത് പുതിയ ലോകമാണ്. ജനനം മുതൽ കേൾവിയില്ലാതെ നിശബ്ദതയുടെ തടവറയിലായിരുന്ന ഈ കുഞ്ഞിന് മോചനമേകിയത് മമ്മൂട്ടിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള കെയർ ആൻഡ് ഷെയർ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ ഫൗണ്ടേഷനും ആലുവ രാജഗിരി ആശുപത്രിയും സംയുക്തമായി നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്ന 'കാതോട് കാതോരം' പദ്ധതിയാണ്.

ഒരു സാധാരണ കർഷകനായ ജെയ്‌സണ് മകന് കേൾവിശക്തി കിട്ടുന്നതിനുള്ള കോക്ലിയർ ഇംപ്ലാന്റേഷൻ ചികിത്സയ്ക്കായി വേണ്ടിവരുന്ന 12 ലക്ഷത്തോളം രൂപ കണ്ടെത്തുക അസാധ്യമായിരുന്നു. മകന്റെ ഭാവിയെച്ചൊല്ലിയുള്ള ആ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ സങ്കടത്തിന് വിരാമമായത് ബന്ധു വഴി അഞ്ജലോയുടെ മാതാവ് ആൻഷ 'കാതോട് കാതോരം' പദ്ധതിയെക്കുറിച്ച് അറിഞ്ഞതോടെയാണ്.

സാമ്പത്തികമായി പിന്നാക്കം നിൽക്കുന്ന കുടുംബങ്ങളിലെ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് കോക്ലിയർ ഇംപ്ലാന്റേഷൻ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയയിലൂടെ കേൾവിശക്തി നൽകുന്നതിനായി മമ്മൂട്ടി മുൻകൈ എടുത്ത് ആരംഭിച്ച പദ്ധതി, ആഞ്ചലോയ്ക്കും കരുതലായി മാറി. രാജഗിരിയിൽ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ കഴിഞ്ഞ് സ്വിച്ച് ഓൺ കർമ്മം നിർവ്വഹിച്ചപ്പോഴാണ് ആഞ്ചലോ ആദ്യമായി ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ കേട്ടുതുടങ്ങിയത്. ആ സുപ്രധാന നിമിഷത്തിലാണ് പ്രിയതാരം മമ്മൂട്ടി വാത്സല്യം കലർന്ന വാക്കുകളിലൂടെ ആഞ്ചലോയെ ഈ ലോകത്തെ മനോഹരമായ ശബ്ദങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വരവേറ്റത്. രാജഗിരി ആശുപത്രിയിലെ ഇ.എൻ.ടി, ഹെഡ് ആൻഡ് നെക്ക് സർജറി വിഭാഗം മേധാവി ഡോ. രാജേഷ് രാജു ജോർജിൻ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലാണ് കോക്ലിയാർ ഇംപ്ലാന്റേഷൻ ശസ്ത്രക്രിയ വിജയകരമായി പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയത്. ഇംപ്ലാന്റ് സർജൻ ഡോ.സജിത്ത് അബ്രാഹാം, ഡോ. ജിത്തു സക്കറിയ, അനസ്തേഷ്യ വിഭാഗം മേധാവി ഡോ. ജോജി ആന്റണി, പിഐസിയു വിഭാഗം മേധാവി ഡോ. സൗമ്യ മേരി തോമസ്, ഇംപ്ലാന്റ് കോർഡിനേറ്റർ എൽജി എം മാത്യു, സീനിയർ ഓഡിയോളജിസ്റ്റ് അബിൻ ലാസർ, സീനിയർ തെറാപ്പിസ്റ്റ് സാറ പോൾ എന്നിവർ ചികിത്സയിൽ പങ്കാളികളായി.
