Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) development is commonly associated with acetaminophen (APAP) overdose, where glutathione scavenging leads to mitochondrial dysfunction and hepatocyte death. DILI is a severe disorder without effective late-stage treatment, since N-acetyl cysteine must be administered...

Elements occur as various isotopes, variations of elements with different atomic weights. American scientist Harold Urey, born in 1893, wondered if the smallest atom, hydrogen, had different isotopes, and he calculated how they ought to be constituted if that were the case. In 1931, he discovered heavy hydrogen and named the new form of hydrogen deuterium. The name formed from the Greek deuteros which means "second", to denote the two particles composing the nucleus.

According to the New York Times obituary, Urey once commented that at the time of the discovery he thought that heavy hydrogen might eventually have practical use in "something like neon signs". Deuterium and tritium are the forms of hydrogen used as fuel in the hydrogen bomb. Deuterium, combined with oxygen as "heavy water", is also essential to the operation of some nuclear reactors.

Urey was awarded the 1934 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, but refused to travel to Sweden because his wife was pregnant, so he delivered his Nobel Prize lecture the following year.

Health and Family Welfare Ministry has issued new clinical guidance for management of adult Covid-19 patients in the country. Under the new guidance, active tuberculosis has been added in the high risk disease for Covid-19.

People above the age of 60, people having cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, HIV, chronic lung, kidney, liver disease, cerbrovascular disease and obesity are in the high risk category.

The new clinical guidance states that anti inflammatory or immunomodulatory therapy such as steroids can have risk of secondary infection such as invasive mucormycosis when used too early, at higher dose or for longer than required.

Health and Family Welfare Ministry has advised that remdesivir not to be used in patients who are not on oxygen support or in home settings.

It said, remdesivir may be considered only in patients having moderate to severe disease of Covid-19 requiring supplemental oxygen.

The guidance further states that Tocilizumab may be considered when rapidly progressing Covid-19 requires oxygen supplimentation.

Novel compound counters levodopa side effect

A drug candidate — PD13R — that is able to minimise the erratic muscle movements associated with Parkinson’s disease treatment has been identified by researchers at Texas Biomedical Research Institute, USA. The team administered PD13R to an animal model of Parkinson’s disease and found that it reduced levodopa-induced dyskinesia.

“We were very excited to see the robust antidyskinetic effect of the drug,” said researcher Marcel Daadi. “I am very hopeful we can move this into phase 1 clinical trials within two years.” https://bit.ly/3xM03F6

Lab study of vs human immune system finds 27% of the virus' mutations lower T-cell responses and 30% reduce B cell (antibody) reactions against .
By comparison, the same lab group found that 8.5% of mutations lower T-cell responses, and 11% affect B cell reactions.
So yes, in lab tests, looks like a immune system evader.
