SHAHEEDI WEEK!

Among the battles fought against oppression and injustice, the Battle of Chamkaur Sahib is considered to be one of the most unique battles in the world. The mughals considered Sikhs as threats to their very existence. They were, therefore, waging a constant war against the Guru and his Sikhs. The background of this war starts from the holy land of Sri Anandpur Sahib that began on 6th and 7th Poh 1761 (1704 CE), when Guru Gobind Singh abandoned Qila Anandgarh and Sri Anandpur Sahib forever.

The attackers laid siege to Anandpur Sahib which lasted for about 6 months. All-access roads were closed, Singh fought valiantly. Due to the heavy siege of the Mughal forces in the long battle of Sri Anandpur Sahib and the daily battle, the number of Khalsa forces was decreasing day by day. Grain and water reserves are running out. There was a severe shortage of fodder for livestock and horses and many Bahadur Singhs and horses went hungry. The commanders of the Mughal army started to loose their hopes and wealth over this war for which the mughal armies started rebelling against their kings and similar was the scenario inside the Anandpur Sahib Fort.

Inside the Anandpur Fort, about 100 Singhs of the Khalsa Fauj decided to leave Anandpur Sahib. After hearing them, Guru Sahib ji sent bedava through Mata Gujri ji ( Mother of Guru Gobind Singh ji) to convey the decision stating “you just have to resign by writing that you’re no more my Sikh and I am no more your Guru”. After hearing this statement, only 40 Singhs (Chali Mukte) decided to stand by the statement and left the Anandpur Sahib and headed to their homes. These Singhs left Anandpur Sahib and headed for home. Once they arrived home, they were severally embarrassed and humiliated by their family.
