Good Evening
FOOD IN SHIVRATRI

Mahashivratri, Special Hindu Festival, celebrated around the country to please their beloved deity Lord Shiva and seek his divine blessings. Mahashivratri literally translates to the 'Great night of Shiva'. Mahashivratri falls in the Hindu month of Phagun. While prayers & vigils go on throughout the night of Maha Shivaratri, what also makes the festival special is its characteristic fasting or the Maha Shivaratri Vrat.
There are several who opt for the 'nirjala' vrat, i.e where people consume no water or food through the day. Majority of the devotees observe a fast where they can have fruits, milk and certain vegetables and non-grain items. Food in Sivaratri fast is as follows :
1. Potatoes: Aloo Kadhi, Aloo Tikki, Aloo Khichdi - There is no bar on potato based dishes, unless it has no onion, garlic, ginger or turmeric. Sendha namak or rock salt is permitted during your vrat. One can eat it in form of Aloo kadhi, aloo tikki, aloo pakoda, aloo khichdi, sweet potato chaat and aloo ka halwa too!

2. Non Cereal Dishes - Non cereal dishes made of sabudana (tapioca pearls) are permitted during the vrat. Sabudana (tapioca) khichdi, sabudana pakora, sabudana vada, kuttu singhare ki puri are some popular dishes consumed by devotees across the world on this special day.

3. Milk based beverages and desserts – As Lord Shiva is very fond of milk, every year Shiva devotees offer milk to the Shiva lingam. Milk is also consumed widely during the vrat. Both milk and milk based beverages make for popular picks during the vrat. You can have thandai, badaam doodh (almond milk) makhane ki kheer, sabudana kheer during fasting.

4. Pakodas and Vadas - For snacks, aloo pakoda, raw banana vadas, singhada flour pakoda. Make sure it is not made in spices that are not permissible to consume during fasting. For spicies cumin or cumin powder, black pepper powder, green cardamom, cinnamon, ajwain, black peppercorn can be used. You can add a dash of sendha namak for flavor.
5. Fruits and Dry Fruits – Devotees can complete their fast by eating fruits, milk and water, also called Phallar. 'Phal' means fruits in Hindi/Sanskrit. Fruit are an integral part of every puja or fasting and Sivaratri is no different. One can have fruit chaats, fruit salads and fruit milkshakes. In addition to fruits you can also munch on a wide variety of dry fruits. Almonds, walnuts, dates, cashews, raisins and dried apricots all make for good munching options.

A Healthy Diet is Important

A healthy diet is an important part of a head and neck cancer patient’s journey before, during, and after treatment. Eating healthy can help prevent weight loss, lack of appetite, and other side effects of head and neck cancer treatment. It can also help you feel better and respond better to your cancer treatment.

Before Treatment: Head and neck cancers can cause eating problems before treatment even begins. Side effects like trouble swallowing and mouth sores can make eating difficult.

During Treatment: Eating problems are common during head and neck cancer treatment. Side effects like nausea or decreased appetite can make it hard to feel well and eat healthy.

Eating healthy can help with these side effects and help give you more energy.
Addressing eating problems can help prevent delays in treatment, hospital stays, and improve how well you respond to treatment.

After Treatment: A healthy diet is also important after treatment. A healthy diet can help:

Ongoing side effects after treatment
Maintaining a healthy weight
Managing other chronic conditions

Healthy Liver Diet to Lower SGPT & SGOT Levels

Try to get more Vitamin D- Including vitamin D in your diet is a beneficial idea because it helps in preventing liver damage and thus reducing SGPT levels. Ensure you add at least one vegetable and fruit in your major meal as it contains vitamin D in ample quantity. Oranges, soy milk, mushrooms, apples, eggs, fortified cereals, tofu, dairy products, cod liver oil, oysters and green leafy vegetables are good sources of vitamin D.
Go for plant-based nutrient-rich food- Having organic food is the best as it helps in regulating the liver. Along with limiting the leakage of SGPT and SGOT into the blood, it creates new cells. Organic foods are often rich in minerals, antioxidants and vitamins.
Eat colored vegetables and fruits-
It is essential to have fruits and vegetables like kiwi, pomegranate, papaya, carrot, spinach, bell pepper. They are high in antioxidants.
Avoid the foods that contain high salt and sodium
Avoid the deep fried, oily foods
Avoid junk foods

Good Morning !!!
Tips for Kids ...

Provide your kids comfort. Children thrive on routine. Knowing they have dinner or other meals with their family regularly helps them feel safe.

Talk with your kids. Show interest in what’s going on in their lives. Tell them what’s going on in yours. Build stronger connections among your family members.

Monitor their eating habits. Older kids and teenagers spend more time eating at school or at friends’ houses. Use this time to watch what and how they eat. See if there is anything you can do to encourage better habits.

Set an example for your child. If you prepare and eat healthy foods yourself, your child will eat healthier, too. Avoid obsessive calorie-counting. Don’t talk negatively about yourself. Your child could adopt the same attitudes. This could lead him or her to develop body image issues or negative associations with food.

Good Morning !!!
Can fish oils and omega-3 oils benefit our health?

Fish oils contain omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A and D.
Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oils may protect the heart and offer other health benefits, but research results have been mixed.
Eating fish is a better way of getting fish oil or omega 3 than taking supplements.

Omega-3 fatty acids are fats commonly found in plants and marine life.

Two types are plentiful in oily fish:

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA): The best-known omega-3 fatty acid, EPA helps the body synthesize chemicals involved in blood clotting and inflammation (prostaglandin-3, thromboxane-2, and leukotriene-5). Fish obtain EPA from the algae that they eat.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA): In humans, this omega-3 fatty acid is a key part of s***m, the retina, a part of the eye, and the cerebral cortex, a part of the brain.

DHA is present throughout the body, especially in the brain, the eyes and the heart. It is also present in breast milk.
