Ayurveda is a science of life with a holistic approach to health and personalized medicine. It is one of the oldest medical systems, which comprises thousands of medical concepts and hypothesis. Interestingly, Ayurveda has ability to treat many chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and asthma, which are untreatable in modern medicine. Unfortunately, due to a lack of scientific validation in various concepts, this precious gift from our ancestors is trailing. Hence, evidence-based research is highly needed for global recognition and acceptance of Ayurveda, which needs further advancements in the research methodology. The present review highlights various fields of research including literary, fundamental, drug, pharmaceutical, and clinical research in Ayurveda. The review further focuses on improving the research methodology for Ayurveda with a main emphasis on fundamental research. This attempt will certainly encourage young researchers to work on various areas of research for the development and promotion of Ayurveda.

Cultural and Religious Importance of Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra
Jagannath Rath Yatra symbolizes the journey from Dwaraka, a kingdom that he ruled to Braj Bhoomi (modern-day Mathura and Vrindavan), where Shri Krishna grew up. It is also expected to be a recreation of the departure of Lord Krishna from Gokul when he was invited to Mathura by Kansa.



Every Lord Krishna devotee is interested in the Rath Yatra irrespective of who they are. The pulling of the cart symbolizes clearing the mind and surrendering to the Supreme.

Divya-Swasari-Ras reduced inflammation in the OVA-induced model of allergic asthma.


Human relevant doses of DSR suppressed airway remodeling and mucus secretion.


DSR attenuated pro-inflammatory cytokines: IL-1β, -4, -5, -6, -33, TNF-α, and IFN-γ.
Asthma is a chronic allergic respiratory disease with limited therapeutic options. Here we validated the potential anti-inflammatory, anti-asthmatic, and immunomodulatory therapeutic properties of the calcio-herbal ayurvedic formulation, Divya-Swasari-Ras (DSR) in-vivo, using a mouse model of ovalbumin (OVA) induced allergic asthma. HPLC analysis identified the presence of various bioactive indicating molecules and ICP-OES recognized the presence of Ca mineral in the DSR formulation. Here we show that DSR treatment significantly reduced cardinal features of allergic asthma including inflammatory cell accumulation, specifically lymphocytes and eosinophils in the Broncho-Alveolar Lavage (BAL) fluids, airway inflammation, airway remodeling, and pro-inflammatory molecules expression. Conversely, the number of macrophages recoverable by BAL was increased upon DSR treatment. Histology analysis of mice lungs revealed that DSR attenuates inflammatory cell infiltration in the lungs and thickening of bronchial epithelium. PAS staining confirmed the decrease in OVA-induced mucus secretion at the mucosal epithelium; and trichrome staining confirmed the decrease in peribronchial collagen deposition upon DSR treatment. DSR reduced the OVA-induced pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α) levels in BALF and whole lung steady-state mRNA levels (IL-4, -5, -33, IFN-γ, IL-6, and IL-1β). Biochemical assays for markers of oxidative stress and antioxidant defense mechanism confirmed that DSR increases the activity of SOD, Catalase, GPx, GSH, GSH/GSSG ratio, and decreases the levels of MDA activity, GSSG, EPO and Nitrite levels in whole lungs. Collectively, the present study suggests that DSR effectively protects against allergic airway inflammation and possess potential therapeutic option for allergic asthma management.

Abstract
Ethnopharmacological relevance: Chyawanprash (CP), a traditional immune booster recipe, has a long history of ethnic origin, development, household preparation and usage. There are even mythological stories about the origin of this recipe including its nomenclature. In the last six decades, CP, because of the entrepreneurial actions of some research Vaidyas (traditional doctors) has grown to industrial production and marketing in packed forms to a large number of consumers/patients like any food or health care product. Currently, CP has acquired a large accepted user base in India and in a few countries outside India.

Aim of the study: Authoritative texts, recognized by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of India, describe CP as an immunity enhancer and strength giver meant for improving lung functions in diseases with compromised immunity. This review focuses on published clinical efficacy and safety studies of CP for correlation with health benefits as documented in the authoritative texts, and also briefs on its recipes and processes.

Materials and methods: Authoritative texts were searched for recipes, processes, and other technical details of CP. Labels of marketing CP products (Indian) were studied for health claims. An electronic search for studies of CP on efficacy and safety data were performed in PubMed/MEDLINE and DHARA (Digital Helpline for Ayurveda Research Articles), and Ayurvedic books were also searched for clinical studies.

Results: The documented clinical studies from electronic databases and Ayurvedic books evidenced that individuals who consume CP regularly for a definite period of time showed improvement in overall health status and immunity. However, most of the clinical studies in this review are of a smaller sample size and short duration. Further, limitation to access and review significant data on traditional products like CP in electronic databases was noted.

Conclusions: Randomized controlled trials of high quality with larger sample size and longer follow-up are needed to have significant evidence on the clinical use of CP as an immunity booster. Additional studies involving measurement of current biomarkers of immunity pre- and post-consumption of the product, as well as benefits accruing with the use of CP as an adjuvant, are suggested.
