Residents in the UC system work 80+ hours a week - some pulling 28 hour shifts. UCOP’s ridiculous proposal that these doctors must file a grievance in 7 days completely ignores the reality of how little time residents have. Fair contract now!

Today, CIR members participated in a roundtable with Senators Elizabeth Warren (MA), Chris Murphy (CT) and Tina Smith (MN) to talk about the impact of the expiring ACA healthcare subsidies.

Open enrollment began on Nov. 1st. This administration is working hard to let the ACA credits expire on Dec 31st and millions of people are already seeing the skyrocketing costs while trying to sign up on the marketplace.

Our patients need access to care. CIR members Dr. Casey Mohrien, Dr. Andrea Leon, Dr. Jamie Odzer, and Dr. Jessyka Desrosiers spoke about of how patients often delay or forgo care due to cosy and they, providers, hospitals, and society at large is all worse off for it.

We have so much to offer our patients but the system is not set up for it. And now we have a government playing with people’s lives. The ACA subsidies must be renewed, and we must work to make care MORE accessible, not less.

Resident physicians at Children’s National Hospital have dedicated our lives to caring for DC’s kids. But pediatrics is the lowest-paid specialty in medicine, and too many of us are living paycheck to paycheck while working 80+ hour weeks. Our patients deserve the world, and that all starts with doctors who are supported and paid fairly. Children’s National, it’s time to invest in the doctors who keep DC’s children healthy. We need a fair contract NOW.

We won our first resident union contract at —read all about it 😎

CIR members fought hard to get to this point. This momentum in the Midwest started at the beginning of the pandemic. UIC, Northwestern, and now UChicago all have secured major agreements that will help support us and the communities we serve here in Chicago!

While this is a victorious first step for H1B status holders currently working in the U.S., the fight is far from over. We're putting the Trump-Vance administration on notice: we will not be silent while you harm the working people who help keep this country running. From doctors to teachers, this dangerous proclamation will cause chaos in our communities, AND WE MUST ACT. In solidarity with our coalition partners, we will continue our lawsuit until the proclamation is fully blocked.

UMass housestaff reached a tentative agreement! We are proud of the collective action we took to make significant gains for housestaff and our patients in central Massachusetts.

From delivering petition signatures, to sending hundreds of emails to demand our Health Benefits Fund back, to speaking out at City Hall - we pushed Chan Medical School Memorial Medical Center
to negotiate a fair contract that values our commitment to high-quality patient care and our lives outside of work that we’re building in the Worcester community.

We know that UMass can’t advance without housestaff and during these past five months we demonstrated just that - and when we fight, WE WIN!
