Committee of Interns and Residents

Committee of Interns and Residents The nation's largest and oldest labor UNION for interns, residents, and fellows.

05/03/2026

Last week AHS Members held a Unity Break, demanding that the administration negotiate a fair contract with wages that reflect Bay Area COL, protections for patients from ICE at Highland, and reduced boarding in the ED. CIR Members also stood with their siblings to demand that AHS execs stop balancing the budget on their backs through system-wide lay-offs that will make delivering quality patient care more challenging than ever. 📣💪🩺

Hundreds of union resident physicians at Maimonides and One Brooklyn Health are coming to the bargaining table tonight to demand fair contracts for our work caring for the people of Brooklyn. We are often the first doctors patients see, caring for our neighbors during the most difficult moments of their lives, while helping them navigate the many barriers to care for our city’s working class. But we are tired, and we are struggling to pay our own rent and to live close to the hospitals where we spend sometimes 80 hours a week or more.

As physicians and our patients face unprecedented attacks, we know that our well-being is inseparable from Brooklyn’s health. That’s why residents are demanding living wages, essential benefits improvements, and other protections. We cannot wait.

Incredible legislative wins in New Mexico thanks to major advocacy by our union and coalition partners!

CIR members worked with our allies to meet with legislators, deliver testimony, share our stories, and more. Using our collective action to champion policy that will directly improve conditions for us and our patients is UNION POWER!

CIR members traveled to Springfield yesterday to talk to lawmakers about our bill to cap healthcare premiums for health workers

We had some good discussions about the impacts of high premiums and out of pocket costs. We were able to secure 7 co sponsors from both chambers, and support from the Senate Health Appropriations Chair committee.

Thousands of New York’s union nurses just made history with their strike victories, protecting their well-being and patient care for our city. CIR physicians were so proud to stand beside our nursing siblings, and now we are ready to fight for what we need to care for ourselves and to keep providing great care to New York. Starting at bargaining tonight at Mount Sinai Morningside-West, we’re taking on corporate medicine and an unjust and profit-driven healthcare system to fight for immigrant doctors, patient care, and our well-being.

CIR started in NYC, and we’re standing on the nurses’ shoulders and on the shoulders of all the doctors who fought before us, including thousands of CIR doctors at NYC’s public hospitals who fought and won in 2024.

Let’s do this!!!

ICYMI 👀 Earlier this month Trump’s DOJ dropped their appeal to coerce UCLA into paying a $1.2 billion settlement and institute far-right ideological changes across the institution. CIR members joined a large coalition of other UC unions and faculty groups in a lawsuit that led to the current injunction. This victory shows us that not only is it worth fighting, but that we are always stronger together! 💪

CIR members, including Dr. Jackline Lasola, joined Sen. this week to launch the campaign for the CA Billionaire Tax!

This ballot initiative for a one time 5% tax for billionaires means that ultra-wealthy would pay their fair share so that our state can invest in the public services that are critical to our collective well-being: healthcare, housing, food, and more.

As doctors, we can only do so much in our exam rooms when our patients are lacking basic necessities. We’re proud to join the state’s labor unions in this opportunity for all of us to unite to ensure our families get what they need to be healthy.

It’s time to TAX. THE. RICH.
