Yesterday, CIR members in Washington, D.C. testified before the city council against the cuts to the city’s Healthcare Alliance program.

The D.C. City Council recently voted to cut funding for the Healthcare Alliance program which serves over 28,000 low-income, Medicaid-ineligible DC residents, most of whom are immigrants. As doctors, we see first hand how less care means worse outcomes for patients, providers, and our entire health system. At a time when the federal government is rolling back essential services, we must step up even more at the local level to protect our community.

This program is a lifeline and we call on the D.C. City Council to restore funding!

Last week, CIR Regional Vice President Dr. Justin Halloran testified in front of the Massachusetts legislature in support of the Community Safety Act to ban any local law enforcement collaboration with ICE.

As doctors, we see how this immigration targeting has severe adverse effects on our community. Violence against our most vulnerable hurts our collective well-being. We must do everything we can to protect each other.

CIR members in Miami have endorsed for Mayor in the run-off election on Dec 9th!

In a race against a Trump-backed extremist, we need a champion who will stand with us and our patients. Let’s keep building on the incredible wins we saw across the country last month.

Early voting starts soon, make a plan to cast your ballot!

Residents at UC Davis Health are already overworked and underpaid - the last thing they need to worry about is whether they have enough money for parking or whether they’ll need to walk nearly a mile to get to work. And now UC Davis Health wants to charge even more for parking, despite its healthcare workers already giving so much of themselves to the hospital.

Send an email demanding that UCDH negotiate over these changes and make other changes to their proposal at the link in our bio!

They want to make an example of David Huerta to scare organizers, immigrants, workers, and politicians into silence. But the example he sets is courage – and we stand united in solidarity with him. As David says: “We will keep fighting until every worker and every family is safe from raids, separation, and fear.” That’s why we stand for ! ✊

Last week CIR members at spoke at public health trust board meeting alongside our fellow and .florida union workers. Jackson’s current wage proposal is completely inadequate. We demand a fair cost of living adjustment!

We are the people who make the hospital run. We deserve to be compensated so that we can pay our bills and live with dignity. Fair wages now!

When residents at Kings County in Brooklyn were told that we had just a few weeks to prepare for our emergency departments LONE CT scanner to be missing for several months, we knew how damaging that could be to care. So we did what healthcare workers do: We organized. Across our unions, and across our hospital, more than 200 people signed a petition in just 10 days.

We sat in meetings with the administration and shared how implementing their ill-conceived infrastructure plan without adequate safety measures could jeopardize care for Brooklyn. Administrators pushed back the start date, but they have still failed to respond substantively to our concerns. That’s why we spoke out yesterday—because we know Brooklyn deserves continued world class care.

Health justice means resources for our safety net hospitals and working class patients of color - not excuses. CEO Sheldon McLeod and Chief Operating Officer Graham Gulian must listen to the workers at the center of care and indefinitely halt the current CT scanner update plan until the administration can provide worker-informed plan, one that includes maintenance of full hospital imaging capacity and a CT scanner in proximity to the emergency department! We’re grateful to have the solidarity of our union siblings across Kings and special thanks to and for always having our backs.

State pensions should not go towards weapons of mass destruction! CIR member Dr. Anisah Hashmi testified this morning, calling on the MA legislature to pass a bill to ban state investments in WMDs.

As doctors, we dedicated our entire careers to preventing and healing illness and injury. WMDs do nothing but inflict that very harm. There is no reason the pensions that union workers pay into should go into inflicting large violence.
