Resident physicians are at the center of patient care, and we deserve to have our contract respected for ALL Maimonides Health doctors.

Housestaff at UVM Health - UVM Medical Center delivered a petition to management this week with a message: Invest in us so that we can preserve our own health the way we fight to preserve the health of our community.

We’ll keep fighting until management supports the urgent proposals that will not only help us survive residency - but thrive and build lives in Vermont so we can continue to care for our patients.

This week, CIR members joined all the way to the state capitol to call on our legislators to pass the New York Health Act!

Dr. Alex Le spoke before the crowd on exactly how our current health system is failing patients and providers. We need universal care in New York State NOW!

Last week, CIR Regional Vice President Dr. Brett Lewis spoke in front of the MA legislature in support of the PROTECT Act to curb ICE presence in our community.

In many ways, the lives of our patients are less safe because of immigration enforcement. They’re getting care, are afraid to go to work, and even risk getting evicted. As doctors, we will do what we can, both inside and outside of our hospitals, to protect our patients.

Last week, CIR members in Rhode Island joined other SEIU members (Locals 1199NE, 32BJ, 580 and 401) for a legislative luncheon hosted by the RI SEIU State Council.

Not only did we get to proudly rep CIR, we shared our stories with electeds and fellow SEIU members about residency, the difficulties of providing high-quality patient care as we struggle living paycheck to paycheck, and why we need their support for our fight for a first contract.

We also advocated for SB-2238 and HB-7313, which would make sure everyone in RI pays their fair share so there’s more investments to keep our communities healthy. ✊🏾

Last week AHS Members held a Unity Break, demanding that the administration negotiate a fair contract with wages that reflect Bay Area COL, protections for patients from ICE at Highland, and reduced boarding in the ED. CIR Members also stood with their siblings to demand that AHS execs stop balancing the budget on their backs through system-wide lay-offs that will make delivering quality patient care more challenging than ever. 📣💪🩺

Hundreds of union resident physicians at Maimonides and One Brooklyn Health are coming to the bargaining table tonight to demand fair contracts for our work caring for the people of Brooklyn. We are often the first doctors patients see, caring for our neighbors during the most difficult moments of their lives, while helping them navigate the many barriers to care for our city’s working class. But we are tired, and we are struggling to pay our own rent and to live close to the hospitals where we spend sometimes 80 hours a week or more.

As physicians and our patients face unprecedented attacks, we know that our well-being is inseparable from Brooklyn’s health. That’s why residents are demanding living wages, essential benefits improvements, and other protections. We cannot wait.

Incredible legislative wins in New Mexico thanks to major advocacy by our union and coalition partners!

CIR members worked with our allies to meet with legislators, deliver testimony, share our stories, and more. Using our collective action to champion policy that will directly improve conditions for us and our patients is UNION POWER!
