What are your insights and realizations about death?

Death is a naked reality as life is. One day, everyone is going to face death whether we like it or not. It is as important an event as birth is. There are many fears and superstitions related to death, but the reality is that death is just a change in which our consciouness leaves the disintegrated body and moves to etheric plane. People may or may not suffer pain before death depending upon the circumstances. I would like to recommend a book “The beauty of death" on this topic by the great philosopher jiddu krishnamurti.

What should we say in Surya Namaskar?

Surya namaskar is a combination of different steps or moves, actually 12 steps are involved in it, which is a very good warm-up and stretching exercise in yoga. It stretches almost all body parts and muscles. It is generally done prior to all the yogasanas and heavy exercises, although you can do it at any point of your exercise regimen, especially in the end as a static stretching exercise. It's benefits are greatly amplified when it is performed in open air in the morning, facing the sun when sun rays are light.

Below we mention 12 Names of Surya Bhagavan- the Sun God, which are associated with the Surya Namaskar or the salutations to the Sun God. Each name corresponds to one particular posture or salutation. You can chant them in any order and these mantras are completely optional, we mean you can perform sun-salutations without chanting them at all.

Om suryaya namah
Om adityaya namah
Om bhaskaraya namah
Om arkaya namah
Om marichaye namah
Om antarikshaye namah
Om khagaya namah
Om ravaye namah
Om mitraye namah
Om bhanave namah
Om pushne namah
Om hiranyagarbhaya namah

Can you meditate in any position?

Yes, you can meditate in any posture i.e. sitting on a chair, laying in bed, standing, walking, running, swimming, eating, in fact you can meditate 24 hours in any activity you perform. You can meditate before sleeping also, so that gradually you can become aware and alert in your sleep and of your dreams. It is said that gautam buddha used to remain fully awake in his sleep, only his body rested.

The posture of body has very little to do with meditation. The best posture to meditate is that in which you relax completely and forget your body, so that you can enter into deep meditative states of awareness.

How do you meditate and clear your mind of the noise?

The very effort to clear your mind of the noise or unwanted thoughts is futile because whatever you pay attention to in your mind, that will gain strength and you will end up fighting with the thought or emotion or feeling. What you actually need to do is, to step away from the vibrations in your mind and watch them as a witness rather than interfering with them.

As you practice this watching or witnessing, the thoughts or noise, whatever you like to call it, will gradually loose their momentum and will start to wither away and your mind will become naturally silent and relaxed. In this state of mind you can choose your object of meditation, and your thoughts around this object will flow freely and you can get a deeper insight on any topic meditating like that.

Why sudden jerks come when we are meditating?

We feel jerks or body movements during meditation due to the fact that kundalini or chitta energy or consciousness start to become active in that area of spiritual as well as physical body due to deepening states of meditation. It is a good sign that your chitta energy is getting awakened and it will automatically clear your energy centers or chakras of all the blockages so that they will start to function at their optimum level. You must not interfere with this process and just let it happen and run its course of action.
