World Obesity Day – 8 Billion Reasons to Act
Observed on 4 March, World Obesity Day reminds us that obesity is not simply a matter of individual choice — it is a complex, chronic condition influenced by genetics, environment, lifestyle, food systems, and access to healthcare.
The 2026 theme, “8 Billion Reasons to Act on Obesity,” highlights that every person on the planet has a role in creating healthier environments, stronger health systems, and more compassionate approaches to prevention and care.
Globally, obesity continues to rise across all age groups, increasing the risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers, musculoskeletal disorders, and mental health challenges.
In Ayurveda, healthy weight is not about restriction or quick fixes — it is about restoring balance through proper digestion (Agni), mindful eating, appropriate lifestyle, and personalized care.
