Raksha Bandhan is an evocative ritual which has been part of our heritage. It binds people through cultures and geographies in our subcontinent and has remained an important cultural celebration amidst our changing times. Gone are those times when the ‘Rakhi’ used to arrive in the post accompanying the sweet wishes of our sisters.
This artwork stands as an ode to these changing times, where the potentials of technology have managed to make our lives better and happy, where our culture and traditions have become more meaningful with an ‘online’ presence.

Independence Day holds a special importance in the heart of every Indian. India gained its freedom from the colonial rule on this very day and became free at midnight between August 14 and August 15, in the year 1947. India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day this year. On this special day, people celebrate by flying kites, which symbolizes freedom, hoist the national flag and cultural events are organized to pay homage and respect to our freedom fighters for their invaluable contribution.

Every year, The Prime Minister unfurls the national flag at the Red Fort year followed by a speech, where he tells about the country's progress over the past years and also what are the future goals. The day is announced as a public holiday, which means all the government offices, post offices, banks and stores will remain closed on this day.

The day reminds us of all the sacrifices that were made by freedom fighters and their families to set India free from British rule.

The auspicious month of Shravan dedicated to Lord Shiva is around the corner. Devotees look forward to this sacred period during the year to pay tributes to their Ishta Devata, Bholenath. They keep a vrat, perform austerities and do puja on Mondays during Shravan (also known as Sawan). Mondays are considered auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.

Drone Scientist!! 22-year-old Prathap from Mandya, Karnataka has built over 600 drones, and is known as the Drone Scientist. He used a lot of e-waste to make drones. When floods ravaged major parts of North Karnataka and people were stranded in different places, Prathap NM used the drone he made to provide food and relief materials to several affected areas. He has also delivered a few lectures at IIT Bombay and IISc on how drones can be used in time-sensitive situations like transferring of organs during organ donation, blood transfer and other such purposes. He has been invited to over 87 countries to showcase his drones, and has worked in over six major projects, including one for defense purposes. We need to encourage and support young minds. Great. The love for learning can keep one young forever!! Dr SK Dhawan is IIT Delhi's oldest PhD recipient at the ripe 'young' age of 77. He is a former Chief Engineer from Central Public Works Department and was engaged in planning, design and construction of various roads, buildings and bridges across India. He retired from the Government of India in 2002. His passion for learning and knowing more made him come back to IIT Delhi to pursue a PhD in 2013. Dhawan's PhD thesis on 'Remaining life of existing reinforced structures' deals with how long a building can stand and what can be done to improve its longevity. His passion for learning itself was the motivation. Great. Hats off Dr. Dhawan. You are an inspiration for us.
