I wanted to share an incident that happened recently during Gauri Ganesh Habba. Evening, we invited women folks in neighborhood for Kumkum. A kid walked along with his mom and grandma. He climbed the stairs, walked into our house and sat down on the mat. Not even once did he put up his head and looked at anyone/anything.
I had been observing this. The Psychologist/Social worker instinct in me said “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached”!!
I started to engage the kid in a conversation. I must have done so for around close to 5 minutes. I miserably failed to make the kid’s head lift even once. Guess what?!! ………...Yes you got it right. He was constantly engaged with a game in the mobile. Neither did the mom nor the grand mom care to tell the kid even once that he also has an option to respond to me!
On the contrary, they told me that when he is usually engaged with his phone, he doesn’t talk to anyone!! The sense of pride was very apparent on both their faces unanimously. I even started to feel that they might be infuriated with me because I am interrupting the kid from achieving his badge for moving to next level!!
The thought that I want to instigate here is that, at first place, did the elders know the toll that the over usage of mobile is going to cause over the small kid? Did they know that the kid is going to start behaving indifferently because he is not going to like the fact that he is being disturbed? Did they know that he is missing enjoying the nature around him as a kid? What are their contributions in making that child mentally healthy and physically thereby?
Let’s give a thought towards a healthy future generation……………Lets care for the blooming generation by educating everyone around us
