There is Ability in disAbility
Since 1959 The Association of People with Disability (APD) has worked for comprehensive rehabilitation of economically marginalized People with Disabilities.
Through grassroots urban and rural community programmes that include therapeutic services, mobility aids, integrated education and livelihood training; APD transforms the lives of over 33,000 people with different kinds of disability at any point of time.
But there’s still work to be done: estimates say 70 million of People with Disability reside in India. And APD, along with other organizations, is at the frontlines of countering the challenge. Now, you too can bolster our efforts, thus setting lives free.
We run various programmes which fall under the following categories:
• Education
370 Children with Disability benefit from our schooling facilities. Many stay in regular attendance from APD’s nursery, right through this programme’s culminating in Class 7. But APD’s territory also stretches into the rural backwoods, ensuring 2,600 children in all, have a shot at making it into a mainstream school.
• Training, Employment and Livelihood
What faculties of the Young People with disabilities are suited to which job? That process of matching has enabled APD to put 3,041 shoulders to the wheel. The industries benefiting from such placements are Information Technology, Manufacturing Sector and Services.
• Therapeutic Services
Adaptation is the key to a healthy survival, and so APD equips people to accomplish this through the help of therapy and mobility aids. Thus, 11,800 APD beneficiaries annually have learnt to circumvent their limitations.
• Networking and Advocacy
The Disabled are entitled to Rights which as yet, are seen to be merely Needs. Plus, there is a whole array of constitutional funds out there that APD has been endeavoring to channelize towards its local, regional and national bastions.
• Community Work
Reaching out is the only way to touch the unreachable, and joining hands ensures the reinforcement of a safety net. APD has given wings to these notions by increasing accessibility and sustainability for People with Disability, in the areas of – education, therapy, training, mental health and mobility.
• Horticultural Unit
Perhaps APD’s most glowing accomplishment is its Horticultural Training Programme. Through this prospering initiative, Disabled youth learn the art of gardening and landscaping, and take up jobs in the corresponding “field”. APD has two such gardens where the disabled can grow - one at Jeevan Bheema Nagar and the other at Kyalasanhalli.
You can keep APD’s network strong and fuel its drives too. One of the donation options below could use a contribution from you, towards making a difference in the lives of people with disability.
