Are You At Risk For Vision Loss? Glaucoma Risk Factors Explained | Shekar Eye Hospital
Watch the full video: https://youtu.be/mSA7HL63Nd4
In this video, Dr. G. M. Shailesh, Senior Consultant at Shekar Eye Hospital, explains glaucoma, a serious disease that damages the optic nerve, the nerve connecting the eye to the brain. Glaucoma occurs when the pressure inside the eye rises and gradually harms the optic nerve, leading to irreversible blindness if not treated in time.

Early detection is critical. Glaucoma must be identified, treated, and monitored through regular follow-ups. People at high risk include:

• Individuals above 40 years
• Those with myopia or hypermetropia
• Long-term users of steroid drops or steroid medications
• Those with a history of eye trauma
• Individuals with a family history of glaucoma

Some patients may experience blurred vision or coloured halos, which can indicate acute angle-closure glaucoma, a more urgent form of the condition.

Always consult an eye specialist and get a comprehensive eye examination around the age of 40. If any signs of weakness are detected, your doctor will recommend further tests and evaluations. When diagnosed early, glaucoma can often be managed effectively with eye drops and ongoing treatment.

Take care of your eyes, regular check-ups can save your vision.

The Silent Threat to Your Eyes: Diabetes Explained | Shekar Eye Hospital
Watch the full video: https://youtu.be/EpaDpuGjWm0

In this video, Dr. Vidhya, Retina Consultant at Shekar Eye Hospital, explains how Diabetes Mellitus affects the eyes and overall health.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterised by high blood sugar levels caused by reduced insulin production or poor insulin utilization. The prevalence of diabetes is significantly high in India, and it can affect multiple organs including the eyes, kidneys, heart, and nerves.

People with uncontrolled diabetes are at an increased risk of stroke, cardiovascular diseases, diabetic nephropathy, and diabetic retinopathy. Studies show that nearly 12.4% of diabetic patients develop some form of retinopathy, with around 4% experiencing vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy.

Dr. Vidhya emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive retinal examination for every diabetic patient, as early detection can prevent severe vision loss. Diabetes can also cause early cataract formation, dry eyes, optic nerve damage (diabetic papillopathy), and retinal vein occlusions.

If you experience sudden vision loss, dark spots, flashes of light, or reduced contrast sensitivity, it’s crucial to get your retina checked immediately.

Take good care of your diabetes, attend regular eye check-ups, and follow your doctor’s advice to protect your vision.

Clear Vision Without Glasses: Understanding LASIK, PRK & SMILE Surger | Shekar Eye Hospital

Watch the full video: https://youtu.be/SPmn8ge-hjE

In this video, Dr. Archana Singh, Senior Consultant in Cornea and Refractive Services, and LASIK Surgeon at Shekar Eye Hospital, explains the three most popular and effective laser procedures that help you achieve clear vision without glasses or contact lenses.

Are you someone who depends on spectacles or contact lenses to see clearly and wish to enjoy life without them? Then this video is for you. Dr. Archana Singh breaks down the science behind LASIK, PRK, and SMILE - the world’s most trusted laser eye surgeries for vision correction.

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) reshapes the cornea using an excimer laser to correct refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism.

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) uses the same excimer laser to reshape the cornea after removing the thin surface layer (epithelium). A protective bandage lens is placed for a few days during healing.

SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is a flapless, minimally invasive laser procedure in which the surgeon removes a tiny lenticule from within the cornea to improve vision.

All three procedures are safe, precise, and deliver excellent results, helping patients see clearly with their natural eyes often within hours of surgery.

To know which procedure best suits your eyes, contact Shekar Eye Hospital for a comprehensive evaluation and personalised guidance.

In this informative video, Dr. Priyanka Singh, Consultant at Shekar Eye Hospital, explains the role of retina injections in protecting and preserving vision. She reassures patients that the procedure is safe and simple, easing the concerns of those who may feel anxious about eye treatments.

The injection is administered in the operation theatre under complete aseptic conditions. Patients are made to lie down comfortably, and numbing eye drops are applied to ensure a painless experience. A very fine needle is then used to deliver the injection into the white part of the eye—not the front—taking only a few seconds to complete. After the injection, eye drops are applied, and patients are advised on simple post-procedure care for the following days.
Dr. Priyanka Singh emphasizes that timely treatment is crucial to prevent further vision loss. With advanced technology and expert specialists, Shekar Eye Hospital ensures precision, safety, and patient comfort at every step.
