Bangalore Cancer Centre Wishing You a Happy Women's Day

BCC- International Women’s Day

Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, so, to create awareness regarding this life-threatening disease we observe this women's Day with awareness towards cancer, particularly among women. Bcc wants to inspire change and reduce the impact of cancer among our families.
This year the theme of World Cancer Day is 'Together all our actions matter' which means our actions make a great impact not just on the people around us but also globally. We all wish that soon world is healthier and brighter without cancer, however, this can only be achieved when we will come together.
Breast cancer accounts for 14% of cancers in Indian women. One woman gets diagnosed with breast cancer every 4 minutes in India, and one woman dies of breast cancer every 13 minutes, making it the most prevalent cancer among women. About one in twenty-eight Indian women are expected to develop breast cancer during their lifetime. And screening with clinical breast examination every year for 40 years and above, will help us pick up early phase of disease which can be completely treated.

Also as we know that Cervical Cancer is completely preventable with screening, and usually have no symptoms and feel perfectly healthy. So the best way to protect our self is a pap test which can find changes in cervical cells before they become cancer. If we catch it early, it can be completely cured. And BCC ensures that a pap test can never be embarrassing or uncomfortable, and get done with the whole test taking only about ten minutes.

Cancer can be prevented and controlled by implementing evidence-based strategies for cancer prevention, screening and early detection, treatment and palliative care. The most common modifiable risk factors for cancer, which are shared with many other noncommunicable diseases, are:

To***co use
Low fruit and vegetable intake
Harmful use of alcohol
Lack of physical activity
Some specific risk factors for cancer include chronic infections from human papilloma virus (HPV) -for cervical cancer-, hepatitis B and C - for liver cancer-, and H.Pylori - for stomach cancer.

It is estimated that 30-40 percent of cancers can be prevented by reducing these risk factors. Public health policies can be put in place to support individual healthy lifestyle choices, and that make them the easy choice. Many other cancer types, notably cervical, breast and colorectal cancer can be detected early and treated effectively through organized screening and early detection programs, and access to timely cancer treatment.

Cancer can be prevented and controlled by implementing evidence-based strategies for cancer prevention, screening and early detection, treatment and palliative care.

Bangalore Cancer Centre and Jeevan hospital Denkanikottai Hosur.

Cancer is a deeply personal disease. It affects all of us. We all have friends
and family who have lived and sometimes died with this horrible disease. Cancer exerts a
tremendous physical, emotional and financial strain on individuals, families, communities,
health systems, and countries.
Nearly every country has seen an increase in cancer cases over the past decade, and over
the next 20 years, cancer rates are projected to rise by at least 60%.
Many low- and middle-income countries already have large numbers of cancer patients
who do not have access to timely, quality diagnosis and comprehensive treatment. In
2019, more than 90% of high-income countries reported that treatment services for
cancer were available in the public health system, compared to less than 15% of low-
income countries, where survival is unacceptably low. Recent decades have seen rapid innovation in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Yet
the distribution and uptake of these services, medicines and technologies have been profoundly inequitable and inefficient. Being diagnosed with cancer shouldn’t be a death sentence because you do not have access to health care or the means to pay for it.
If people have access to primary care and referral systems, cancer can be detected early, treated effectively and cured. Careful evidence-based investments in cancer interventions
will deliver meaningful social and economic returns, with increased productivity and equity. Together, we can reverse the tide of cancer, @ Bangalore cancer Centre and Jeevan hospital Denkanikottai Hosur.
We are all set to create awareness among patients about the early warning signs of cancer and address the lack of access to diagnosis are among factors that contribute to the late diagnosis of cancer with diagnostic delays more likely in rural areas.

Linear accelerator (LINAC - State-of-the-Art Technology ) at Bangalore Cancer Centre for Focused and Painless Cancer Therapy - Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy is used for cure, control, and palliation of cancers in more than 60% of cancer patients. It is used alone as well as in combination with surgery and chemotherapy. The goal of radiotherapy is to treat the cancer and spare the normal tissue as much as possible. Advances have been made that allow delivery of higher doses of radiation to the tumor while sparing a greater amount of surrounding tissue, thus achieving more cures and fewer acute and long-term side effects.

At Bangalore Cancer Centre we have Elekta Compact which provides single-energy 6MV radiation and is capable of delivering a range of treatments from simple to complex—including IMRT. The independent diaphragm x-ray head provides a full 360º rotation, large 40 cm x 40 cm field size and x-ray beam blocking capability. When this is dedicated for a specific patient, it can provide the required security and flexibility to block parts of the beam to shield critical structures. We operate with exceptionally wide clearance, low isocenter and near-silent operation, provides a reassuring environment for patients.

At BCC patient receiving this radiation therapy will lie down on a table with the LINAC moving around them to send out the photon beams from different directions. A treatment session is normally between 10 min to 30 min long. This is typically an outpatient procedure taking place 5 times per week. Because external beam radiation enters the body from the outside, normal tissues that the beams pass through can be damaged. The treatments are scheduled with this in mind, leaving enough time between sessions for damage to heal.

Many people have five sessions per week for 3–9 weeks, but this depends on specific factors. On an average at BCC each session lasts for around 15 minutes. Radiation therapy is painless, but there will be damage to surrounding tissue. This is why the treatment occurs on only 5 days per week.
