“From Faces to Feelings: Helping Children Understand Emotions"
Small steps make big emotional growth Using feelings cards, children learn to identify, understand, and express emotions like happy 😊 and sad 😔.
This simple activity supports:
✔️ Emotional awareness
✔️ Communication skills
✔️ Social understanding
✔️ Emotional regulation
When a child points to a feeling, they’re not just choosing a card —they’re learning to understand themselves 💙
Understanding emotions is a critical life skill, and for many children, it doesn’t come naturally—it needs to be taught, modeled, and practiced. In this session, the therapist uses feelings cards to help the child recognize and differentiate basic emotions like happy 😊 and sad 😔By pointing to the correct emotion, the child is learning to:
• Observe facial expressions
• Match emotions with visuals
• Build emotional vocabulary
• Express feelings without frustration
• Develop early social communication skills
This activity is especially helpful for children with autism, developmental delays, speech delays, and emotional regulation difficulties, as visual supports make abstract concepts more concrete and easier to understand. At ENLIVEN Therapy Center, we focus on building emotional understanding step by step—because when a child learns to recognize feelings, they gain the foundation to manage emotions, connect with others, and communicate their needs effectively 💛
