One Step at a Time

One Step at a Time A nonprofit that works towards inclusion of people wt disabilities in India through: community of Pwds, advocacy, raising awareness & adapted art n fitness

One Step at a Time is a non profit that works towards transforming lives of people with disabilities and attitudes towards disability in India. Disability results from the interaction between persons with impairments, and attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinders their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others. We believe that an attitude of empathy and understanding towards disability, is required than that of sympathy and pity. This will help society become more accepting of PWDs. At One Step at a Time, we are working to bring about change that results in true social inclusion of people with disabilities in the society and enable them to live to their best potential.

Our Story

One Step at a Time is a non profit that works towards social inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities in India. Currently we operate mostly in Bangalore, and are starting operations in Trivandrum. Our tagline - Accept, Adapt and Rise - aptly sums up our mission both in terms of those affected by disabilities accepting their condition, adapting to their challenges and rising above to achieve their best potential. And for the society to accept people with disabilities, adapt itself to enable potential of those living with disabilities and to Rise - in unison, harnessing the abilities and potential of those living with disabilities.

We started as a support group for amputees in June 2015, and now work in touching lives of those with all types of disabilities. Our areas of work include - Peer Support Network, Disability Awareness, Advocating for rights of those with disabilities and Adapted Art (dance and theatre) and Adapted Fitness for those with disabilities.
