Early Childhood Caries (ECC), formerly known as nursing bottle caries, baby bottle tooth decay, is a disease that affects teeth in children between birth and 71 months old. The main bacteria responsible for dental caries is Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus. This happens when sweetened liquids or those with natural sugars (like milk, formula, and fruit juice) cling to an infant's teeth for a long time.
