Ayurveda drugs can be effective in mild to moderate cases of Covid-19

Ayurveda interventions like Ayush kwatha and Fifatrol tablets can be effective in mild to moderate cases of Covid-19 infection in a "very short period" with "complete regression of symptoms". Use of four Ayurveda interventions-- Ayush kwatha, Sanshamanivati, Fifatrol tablets and Laxmivilasa rasa not only improved the condition of Covid-19 patient but also turned the rapid antigen test negative within six days of treatment, according to a case report published in the journal of AIIA -- 'Ayurveda Case Report' in October.

Citing the case of a 30-year-old male health worker infected with coronavirus, the report said his infection was managed with Samshamana therapy that included oral administration of Ayush kwatha, Sanshamani vati, Fifatrol tablets, and Laxmivilasa rasa.

The patient after testing positive for Covid-19 was advised home quarantine.

"The mentioned treatment plan was effective in the symptomatic relief (fever, dyspnea, anorexia, fatigue, anosmia, and dysgeusia) as well as in the resolution of viral load, as the patient tested negative in the RAD for Covid-19 within six days of intervention and RT-PCR test was also done on day 16, which was reported negative," the study said.
Ayush Kwatha is a combination of four medicinal herbs commonly used in every Indian kitchen - basil leaves (tulsi), cinnamon bark (dalchini), Zingiber officinale (sunthi), and krishna marich (Piper nigrum).

Sanshamani Vati (also called guduchi ghana vati) is an ayurvedic herbal formulation used for all types of fevers.

Laxmivilas Ras is a traditional herbomineral medicine that mainly contains Abhrak Bhasma and cures cough, cold and rhinitis. It soothes the throat and sinuses.

Cow Urine, Ayurveda and Sesame Oil:Counter Coronavirus

The Coronavirus outbreak death toll has reached too high in China, with many confirmed cases in Kerala.

The Kerala government declared the novel coronavirus epidemic as a “state calamity” after a third student tested positive for the infection in the state, and assured that all necessary steps to ensure that the outbreak is effectively controlled. The disease was first identified in Wuhan in China in December. Known for its contagious nature has been rapidly spreading, with several other countries reporting their first confirmed cases. As the disease crossed borders and made its way to India, several health authorities and people in positions of power gave us advice on how we could counter the diseases.

It started with the Ministry of AYUSH, which covers Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homoeopathy.

The ministry’s notification, which sparked criticism on social media for spreading “misinformation”, comes with a disclaimer, stating that it does not claim to be treatment guidance for the coronavirus infection.

The ayurveda advice includes drinking "Shadang Paniya (Musta, Parpat, Usheer, Chandan,Udeechya & Nagar) processed water (10 gm powder boiled in 1 litre water, until it reduces to half)", and taking "Agastya Harityaki 5 gm, twice a day with warm water", "Samshamani Vati 500 mg twice a day", "Trikatu (Pippali, Marich & Shunthi) powder 5 gm and Tulasi 3-5 leaves (boiled in 1 litre water, until it reduces to ½ litre…)”, and "Pratimarsa Nasya: Instill two drops of Anu taila/Sesame oil in each nostril daily in the morning."

The Ministry of AYUSH wasn't the only one who found an Ayurveda solution. A doctor of Ayuverda and Siddha from Tamil Nadu, claimed to have found a 'cure' to the virus.

The doctor, Dr Thanikasalam Veni who is currently practicing at Rathna Siddha Hospital in Chennai, and has 25 years of experience in the field of Siddha and Ayurvedic medicines.

In an interview to ANI, he says that he has formulated a medicine made from an extract of herbs, which can cure "any type of viral fever."

One of the symptoms of coronavirus is high fever. The doctor also claimed that the medicine could treat the infections caused by the corona virus within 24 hours to 40 hours.

"When we treated the dengue virus with our medicine, many patients with reduced platelets count, acute liver failure, immunity deficiency and low white blood cell (WBC) were cured within 24-40 hours," said Veni. "In coronavirus too I am confident our medicine will be very effective," he added.

Following these, the Hindu Mahasabha has also come out with a bizzare treatment for the disease: cow urine and cow dung.

Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, president of Hindu Mahasabha, said cow urine and cow dung can be used for treating novel coronavirus disease. He also said that a special yagna will be performed to "kill the novel coronavirus and end its effects on the world."

"Consuming cow urine and cow dung will stop the effect of infectious coronavirus. A person who chants Om Namah Shivay and applies cow dung on body, will be saved. A special yagna ritual will soon be performed to kill coronavirus," said Chakrapani.

Ayurvedic Treatment for Arthritis

Ayurvedic medicines are used for treatment of various medical conditions. Arthritis is the most common ailment for which people take Ayurvedic treatment. Ayurvedic treatment for arthritis can alleviate pain in people with arthritis.

According to Ayurveda, bodily pain is caused of vata dosha and is basically an air disease. So, the basis of arthritis treatment is to restore the balance of vata dosha.

When ama (a toxin produced by a poor digestive system) accumulates within your body, it aggravates vata. The ama circulates in the body and most often gets deposited in the joint areas. The deposited ama causes arthritis in the affected joints. Hence, to treat arthritis the digestive fire (agni) has to be stimulated while suppressing.

An ayurvedic practitioner prescribes a combination of good diet and healthy eating, herbal remedies, exercise and a spiritual outlook to the patient.

Ayurvedic Remedies

Boswellia (Indian Frankinesense) and Commiphoae Mukul (guggula) in the form of capsules taken three times a day can decrease pain. In addition the herbs may help to decrease inflammation and to strengthen bones and improve flexibility. Triphala herb can help to clean the colon.

Diet modification:

Anti-vata diet should be taken. Avoid hot and spicy food, and other foodstuffs like dairy foods, potato, eggplant cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, okra, potatoes etc. Consume plenty of fruits, fruit Juices, homemade soups, green salads and green vegetables.

Massage:

Hot baths, compresses or massage with massage oils such as Almond oil, Sesame oil is beneficial in arthritic pain as it reduces vata. Massage vigrously on the most severely affected areas for full benefits.

Ways to stay healthy (and happy) this winter season

The change in seasons is well upon us and it's a perfect time to take a look at ways we can keep ourselves healthy and balanced.

As the cold moves in, we need to shift our wellness routine to respond to the changes it brings.

Here are 20 ways you can create a winter wellness plan that works for you.
1. Bring out the crock pot! Emphasis slow cooked, warm, moist meals this season. Soups are a perfect match for the cold, dry days.

2. We gravitate toward richer foods in the winter for good reason -- we need to stay warm, lubricated and healthy. Allow yourself to indulge in high quality dairy, nuts and seeds, dried fruits, organic meats, and healthy fats -- you can feel satisfied without jumping on the sugar train.

3. With the increase in heavier foods, be sure to increase spices and foods that help keep digestion lively. Many of these foods and spices have the added benefit of boosting your immune system because they are antibacterial. Try adding dark leafy greens, berries, garlic, onions, ginger, cumin, oregano, and cinnamon to your recipes whenever you can.

4. Pay attention if your skin feels tighter these days; you may need to switch to a hardier
natural moisturizer like cocoa butter.

5. Prioritize sleep and follow the sun's lead. As the days get shorter, shift your sleep routine toward going to bed earlier and to allow your body more hours to rest and repair.

6. Use humidifiers to keep the air you are breathing moist.

7. If you use a neti pot to help keep your sinuses clear, swab your inner nose with a q-tip dabbed in coconut oil or olive oil when you are done to be sure you don't over dry that area.

8. Be proactive about preventing ear infections. Warm up garlic oil (sold in natural health food stores) to body temperature and put a dropper full into each ear canal.

9. We breathe a lot more indoor air in the winter, so be especially careful to keep it clean and free of toxins. Rotate an air purifier into different rooms.

10. Let indoor green plants help keep your air clean and fresh.

11. Diffuse essential oils to increase the negative ion count in your air (shown to help mitigate the effects of seasonal affective disorder).
12. Keep physically active during the winter to bolster mental health and physical immunity.

13. If you are a walker or runner, invest in a set of cold weather workout clothes so your can keep up your routine as the temperature dips.

14. Shift to indoor activities : yoga, stretching, dance, toning and aerobics can all be done via a DVD in your living room.

15. Join a gym or group workout class to keep connected and accountable to getting your workout in.

16. Get social! Stay connected to others, even as your activities shift more and more indoors. Join a moms' group or book club that meets regularly.

17. Replace outdoor kid's outings with indoor ones, like book time at the library or trips to the museum.

18. Strengthen your body's defenses by keeping your gut healthy. Consume foods that have natural probiotics (like yogurt, kefir, miso soup, cultured vegetables, sauerkraut), or take a high quality supplement.

19. If you take fish oil supplements, shift to cod liver oil supplements for the winter. These have the added benefit of vitamin A and D (great for months when our access to vitamin D producing sunshine is limited).

20. Finally, make a Feel Good menu specifically for winter. Take a moment to brainstorm all the things you can do in winter that you enjoy, that feel indulgent, and that make you happy. Keep this list posted and draw from it to make your days more special and when you need a little extra pampering.

Drinking Water Immediately Before Or After A Meal?

Ayurveda Says You’ve Been Doing It Wrong!

When do we drink water, or when are we supposed to drink water? Obviously, when we are thirsty. Thirst is a natural urge, and when it occurs, it should be attended to, no matter if it is in the middle of your meal, or before or after it. Likewise, we eat food when we feel hungry, and urinate or defecate only when there is an urge to do so. The only purpose of all this is to maintain the circadian rhythm of the body.

When you drink water before eating, it weakens Agni’ i.e. the digestion strength. Since water is a coolant, it dilutes the gastric juice, and this is directly opposite to the digestive strength of the body. Hence, Ayurveda firmly believes that you must not drink water a few hours before having your meals. It is also said that drinking water before meals causes weakness and emaciation as well.

Now, when you drink water immediately after having your food, it directly affects the quality of the food plus the digestive strength of the body. Whatever food you eat, drinking water adds a coolant effect to it, and the chances are that you might become obese if you follow the practice regularly. Thus, Ayurveda does not support the practice of drinking water just after a meal.

The third option i.e. drinking water during a meal is quite beneficial according to Ayurveda. Doing so moistens the food you eat and helps break down the food into fine and smaller particles. And if you’re eating something oily or spicy, it also quenches your thirst. Thus, it is an ideal and healthy habit to have water in between your meal. But, it does not mean that you should drink a glass full of water in order to quench your thirst. Try sipping a minimal amount of water during your meals. Otherwise, your stomach will be full of water, and you’ll eat less amount of food comparatively.

Even if you wish to drink water during the meal, make sure the water is at the room temperature. Drinking very cold water can reduce the digestive fire, which makes the digestive enzymes inactive, and leads to the accumulation of toxic waste in the body. This also results in toxic ailments such as acid reflux or a hiatus hernia. Also, avoid consuming aerated drinks or coffee while having your food.

So drinking water after meal immediately is not advisable. Once you’re done with your meal, wait for around half an hour, and then drink water. This will quench your thirst and also give you a feeling of fullness. After an hour or two, you can drink as much water as possible as the digestion process will be over by then.

The next question that arises is in the case of people who are prescribed medicines that have to be taken before a meal. If drinking water before meals is not a healthy habit, how can those people take medicines?

Do you remember your doctor suggesting you to take medicines ‘half an hour before your meals’? Well, the answer lies there. Since you must not drink water right before having your meals, it is suggested that you must take the medicines half an hour before your meals. Also, make sure you drink water in a limited quantity.

How to Achieve Something in Life

To achieve something in life, you will need to identify important life goals, create a plan of action, and possibly even consider questions of personal identity. Goal achievement involves clarity of purpose, persistent determination, and a reward system that keeps you on your intended path. Most importantly, it requires a goal that keeps you inspired

Clarify your life goals. You may be passionate about obtaining an advanced degree, starting a family, creating a successful business or writing a book. Begin visualizing these goals and talk to competent people about how you might achieve your aspirations. Ask yourself what really makes you happy and try to follow your happiness.

Recognize your strengths. It is a bad idea to follow a life trajectory just because someone tells you to. However, other people will be able to recognize your strengths in an unbiased way that you often cannot. Listen to what they say about your strengths and weaknesses. Try to tailor your goals to your strengths

For example, if you are good at drawing, consider careers in visual design. If you are good at writing, think about how you can leverage that in your own career. That doesn't necessarily mean that you should commit yourself to being a novelist or an artist, which can be difficult careers. But you should consider other careers that utilize these skills, like advertising, architecture, interior design, or law.

Identify obstacles that may interfere with your goal. For example, you might have an innovative business concept, but not enough capital to get it off the ground. It is impractical to get into sports or some professional careers past a certain age. Talk to people who have followed the route you are entertaining to determine if it is viable option for you.

Talk to someone who is successful. To get a sense for what you will need to do to accomplish your goal, you should talk to someone who has already accomplished it. Ask her what steps she had to take to reach her goals. Try to get a sense for the “price” she paid, in terms of how many hours she committed daily to work. Build a plan to follow in her footsteps.

Part of this will consist of setting up a daily schedule. If she committed 3 hours a day to work, ask how can you do the same. Will you need to cut out Television from your schedule or severely limit it to a certain amount of time per day? You will only know if you do the math.

Create a goal achievement action plan. Your goals will be more actionable if you create a plan to realize them. Create a timeline for each goal and identify the steps necessary to realizing each of them. Put it in writing and be as specific as possible about dates, small steps, and verifiable benchmarks for success

Stay motivated. Once you have an action plan, you should reward yourself every time that you meet a goal. If it a small goal, go out for a dinner or a drink, perhaps take some extra time off. If it is a big goal, Take a long vacation. Rewarding yourself will keep you motivated, though you need to make sure that you have set clear benchmarks, like a specific percent increase in sales or a certain grade on the LSAT. Otherwise, you might not force yourself to a very high standard.[5]
Reflect on your personal needs. In addition to the physical needs of staying fed, sheltered and healthy, consider your mental, emotional and spiritual needs as you work to achieve something in life. The need to feel respected, mentally stimulated, challenged and loved are important factors for sustaining motivation. Remain constantly aware of the outcomes of your work.
Verify that your goals foster your motivation. For example, the chances of building a loving family are much greater if you choose a life partner who makes you feel loved and respected, and encourages you to pursue your life goals

Assess your progress. Constantly assess whether you are meeting your goals. If not, determine whether or not you have committed yourself sufficiently, and, if not, make more time in your schedule to meet these goals. If you are working hard to no effect, consider whether a different strategy would work better, or if you need to think about a new goal.

Meditation leads to increased intelligence: Improve your skills and abilities!

Modern science no longer treats intelligence as a fixed trait.

Instead, it’s now universally accepted that cognitive abilities can change in both positive and negative ways. For example, stress has a damaging effect on mental functioning whereas practices such as meditation clearly enhance one’s intelligence.

The Transcendental Meditation technique
One of proven brain-boosting meditation techniques is Transcendental Meditation (TM). When it comes to intelligence, the technique works in two beneficial directions. First of all, TM has been proven to counteract the negative effects of stress. Secondly, TM produces changes in the brain which are positively linked to better mental functioning, such as:

increased cerebral blood flow;
increased broadband frontal coherence, power ratios, and preparatory brain responses (measures correlated with improved cognitive functioning);
reduced stress hormone (cortisol) levels.
Studies with adults in different work settings have found that Transcendental Meditation practice improves:

employee effectiveness
physiological settledness and stability during mental task performance (measured by skin conductance levels)

WHAT IS THE TM TECHNIQUE? Transcendental Meditation or TM is a simple, natural and effortless mental technique practiced twice a day for 20 minutes. It is easy to learn from a qualified teacher (it only takes 1-2 hours on 4 consecutive days) and enjoyable to practice independently hence forth

Sleeping Next to Your Phone

In the world we live in, cell phone use is increasingly essential to daily life. So much so that we do not put it down 24/7. We take it with us wherever we go and if we forget it at home, we feel like something is missing. We do not turn it off at any time of the day and we sleep with it on the nightstand. This habit can be
detrimental to our health.
If you are like the billions of people who sleep with their cell phone next to their bed, this could be causing many problems (imperceptible for the moment) to your health. The radiation that smartphones emit are really dangerous and not advisable for any reason. This is true at any time of the day, but in the hours when we are sleeping, having our cell phone near us can lead to nightmares, inability to sleep, and waking up several times each night, etc. The reason? It causes an alteration in the system of certain self-regulating processes, such as your biological clock or cardiac rhythms.

The World Health Organization has stated that electronic devices in general (not just cell phones) are bad for the body and can increase the chances of developing cancer. They produce toxic effects that many scientists do not acknowledge, which is why you need to know that cell phones are based on ionizing radiation and wavelengths. One study in Australia showed that there is an important relationship between the use of smartphones and sterility in men, as well as reduced s***m quality. In both sexes, there was an increase in stress levels.

Although your cell phone may have an alarm clock you really should turn it off overnight. Because even when we’re not using it, it still communicates with base stations by radio transmissions. This means that the phones are constantly radiating electromagnetic waves into the environment, not just when they are being used. And placing it near your head while sleeping is like “spreading contagions” of these waves that do us no good.
