- Meningitis is defined as inflammation of meninges that is outermost covering of brain and spinal cord protecting it from external trauma to brain and spinal cord.
- Meningitis can be serious disease with high fatality rate and suspicion of meningitis therefore requires rapid and adept action and prophylactic dose must be initiated promptly.
- Meningitis cannot be confirmed on the basis of Clinical manifestation alone. A lumber puncture (LP) is essential to confirm the diagnosis of meningitis and establish the cause.
