Antara Psychiatric Hospital empanelled as Class I Uni -Speciality Hospital under WBHS We operate a 200 bed Psychiatric Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre.
Antara is a Non Governmental, Non Profit, Secular, Voluntary and charitable Society established in 1971, and registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act in 1972. For the past 50 years, Antara has been engaged in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering from mental illness, drug addiction and alcoholism. This Centre, established on a 7-acre plot of land situated in the naturally serene and beautiful environment of South 24 Parganas, accommodates an Out Patient Department (attended by about 250 patients every day), Indoor-hospital with separate facilities for acute, sub-acute, special care, addiction treatment, day treatment, family therapy and rehabilitation facilities for children and adults. To aid in the treatment, recovery and rehabilitation of patients, there are various facilities at this centre for recreation, vocational training, work therapy, aesthetic therapy etc;
Antara also operates four Satellite Clinics in remote areas, to provide quality mental healthcare to the people who cannot come to us. The Community Mental Health unit extends a number of community based health services as well. ANTARA has become a Movement and symbol of hope for people suffering from mental health problems.

We were delighted to host the students of Ashok Hall School, Kolkata and South Point School, Kolkata on 24th and 25th September 2025 at Antara Psychiatric Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre.

We were honoured to be a part of the 5-day Bazaar/Mela hosted by HSBC, Gariahat, from 13th to 17th October, a wonderful celebration of creativity, compassion, and community spirit.

🌿 Closing Day of Mental Health Week 2025 at Antara 🌿
As the weeklong observance of World Mental Health Week 2025 came to a meaningful close, Antara Psychiatric Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre hosted a deeply insightful seminar on “Psychoeducation of Family Members in a Case of Substance Abuse Disorder” on 17th October 2025.
We were privileged to have Dr. Arundhati Biswas, Consultant Psychiatrist, Antara, deliver an exceptional and heartfelt presentation that truly resonated with the audience.
The session was further enriched by Shri Ranaji D, Antara Society Member, and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), whose personal insights and reflections highlighted the significance of family support in recovery.
Adding great depth to the discussion, Dr. Soumya Chatterjee, Chief Psychiatrist, Antara, shared valuable clinical perspectives and real-life experiences of individuals and families navigating the challenges of addiction.

The discussion brought together an eminent panel of speakers — Dr. Pushpa Misra, Practicing Psychoanalyst and Former Principal of Bethune College; Dr. Arunima Dhar, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work (CDOE), Rabindra Bharati University; Dr. Jitamanyu Maity, DPM Psychiatrist, Antara Psychiatric Hospital; and Mr. Alapan Ghosh, Disaster Management Professional, Government of West Bengal. It was also an honour to have Shri. Sabyasachi Guin, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Project, Baruipur, South 24 Parganas.
