🚼 Myths About Complementary Feeding – Let’s Bust Them!
❌ Myth: Food below 1 year is just for fun
✅ Fact: Food below 1 year is NOT for fun.
It is essential for growth, brain development & nutrition.
❌ Myth: Liquid foods like rice water or dal water are enough
✅ Fact: Rice water, soup, and dal water have LOW energy density.
Babies need THICK, mashed foods, not watery diets.
❌ Myth: Iron is not important in early feeding
✅ Fact: Always start complementary feeding with iron-rich / iron-fortified foods to prevent anemia.
🥣 Examples:
✔️ Ragi
✔️ Thick dal
✔️ Iron-fortified cereals
✔️ Green leafy vegetables (well cooked & mashed)
❌ Myth: Nuts, egg, and meat are unsafe for babies
✅ Fact:
✔️ Nuts can be given in mashed or powdered form
✔️ Egg and meat CAN be given in age-appropriate, well-cooked forms
❌ Myth: Baby needs teeth to chew food
✅ Fact: Babies do NOT need teeth.
They chew effectively using their posterior gums.
