News from Nepal
We all had to follow the media coverage about the most disastrous earthquake in Nepal for more than 80 years on April 25. After several aftershocks and a strong earthquake on May 12 the situation has deteriorated even more. Slightly damaged buildings were destroyed by this second strong earthquake. The number of deaths increased dramatically. The feeling of normality, which was present for a short period of time, was again taken from the people. The fear of new earthquakes and the thought of the upcoming monsoon rains concerns the people.
Early May, Mr. U.K. Lama (Executive Board / Treasurer) and Miss T. Dolma from our office finally visit the C & F projects and had to report the following:
Shree Harissidhi High Secondary School
The school building has been carefully analyzed and one could find that the school building is intact, but the boundary wall is partly destroyed.
As far as they were told by the principal of the school, it cannot be said which students or families need help.
Fortunately, as far as we know, no people were injured.
CWS Bal Kendra
In the Bal Kendra school teaching was resumed with approx. 25 younger and about 14 older children.
Some structural damages on the lower floor was found. So far it seems that all children and their families are safe and unharmed.
C & F Nepal Clinic
The medical complex was okay and so far has survived the earthquake quite well.
Only one of the walls has some cracks.
Slight cracks also occurred on the ceiling of the room on the ground floor.
C & F has purchased tarpaulins and rubber isolation mats from India with the help of local donations.
These were made available to families in different villages who have lost their homes.
The people in Nepal are in dire need of support - especially the support of the international community.
There is an urgent need of food, tents, pots and materials for the construction of housing and accommodation.
A long-term support for construction of the infrastructure and of the houses are immensely important.
We ask for your support and guarantee that all your donations via Förderverein CARE & FAIR and via CARE & FAIR will reach the destination without any deduction for administrative or other costs.
100 % of your contribution will be sent where it is needed most and C & C can help.
