Influenza: (Viral infection & affects nose, throat & lungs)

Cause:
Influenza virus can be transmitted by an infected person to a healthy person in droplets while coughing, sneezing or talking.

Symptoms:

• Running nose
• Nasal congestion
• Cough
• Sneezing
• Fever
• Chills
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Sore throat
• Shortness of breath

 Symptoms are manifested after 1-4 days of influenza virus infection.
 Symptoms last for 5-7 days.

Treatment:

• Throat lozenge
• Nasal decongestant
• Anti-cough syrup/tablet
• Antipyretic drug (e.g: Paracetamol)

Advice:

• Intake more amount of fluids
• Take more rest

Prevention:
An annual vaccine for influenza can help to prevent it.

Viral fever:

Cause:

Virus, a living infective agent which enters the cell & multiplies, producing the symptom that is fever.

Symptoms:

-Increase body temperature (e.g 103° F)
-Headache
-Muscle & joint pain
-Sweating
-Loss of appetite
-Weakness

Treatment (symptomatic):

-Antipyretic for fever
-Sufficient fluid intake
-Rest properly

Prevention:

-Wash your hands before intake of food
-Avoid intake of outside stall food
-Use mosquito repellent
-Keep your surroundings clean & dry

Dengue Fever:

Causes:

-Dengue virus is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito
-Mosquitos transmit the virus from an infected person to a normal person.
-Mosquitoes bite during morning & evening

Symptoms:

-High fever (Breakbone fever)
-Severe headache
-Vomiting
-Retrobulbar pain
-Severe joint & muscular pain
-Red rashes over the body
- In severe cases, there may be bleeding or shock

Treatment:

-Pain killer
-Electral Oral Rehydration (ORS)/IV fluid
-Rest

Prevention:

-Full cover dress ( e.g: shirt, pants & socks)
-Use mosquito repellent
-Dry & clean peripheral area
-Cover the standing water containers to prevent mosquitoes from breeding
