𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀
A family of elderly gentleman with severe COPD was helpless because he got admitted seven times since 2021 and required ventilatory support for six times to manage his raised CO2 during acute attacks.
This time again his CO2 went up to 91 and becomes progressively drowsy with very limited chest expansions. Bipap support was not of much help.

Along with 𝗗𝗿.Debraj Jash, 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭 of Eastern India and 𝗗𝗿.Asif Iqbal,𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭. He was offered "𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀" in the form of Extra-Corporeal CO2 Removal (𝐄𝐂𝐂𝐎𝟐𝐑) for 48 hours and succeeded to bring down his CO2 below 55 to make him awake and avoid impending recurrent ventilator. First time since 2021 , he didn't require a throat-pipe and ventilation to get out this scenario.
ECCO2R is an accepted technique for Type II respiratory failure and of immense help in COPD patients to avoid invasive ventilation during acute exacerbations.
