Malabar’s First Heart Transplantation Took Place in Metro International Cardiac Centre Kozhikode

A Team of Doctors under the leadership of renowned cardiac surgeon, Dr. V. Nandakumar and Chief Cardiologist Dr. P. P. Mohammed Musthafa at the Metro International Cardiac Centre Kozhikode, were in the effort of creating a new chapter in healthcare by performing the first heart transplant surgery in Malabar.
On 16th October, Mr. K.A. Shamsudheen from Manjery received the human heart transplant at Metro International Cardiac Centre Private Limited, Calicut,
First in the history of Malabar.
Mr. Shamsudheen received the heart from Vijesh Parambath, a 29 year old young man who suffered a gunshot from a stray bullet and declared brain dead at the AKG Memorial Hospital, Kannur. The transplant surgery, which began at 5.30 am, was completed in six hours.
