Fortis Hospital Mohali has introduced robotic-arm assisted total hip replacement to its joint replacement programme. Dr Zubin Mehta, Consultant Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement, performed the first procedure on the Mako platform, enabling CT-based 3D planning and real-time haptic-guided precision during surgery.

Why it matters: Even minor deviations in implant positioning can impact mobility, stability, and long-term implant life. Robotic assistance enhances accuracy by translating pre-planned, patient-specific alignment into sub-millimetre ex*****on during surgery.

A CT scan first builds a 3D model of the patient’s hip, allowing exact pre-surgical planning of implant size and orientation. In theatre, the robotic arm guides ex*****on and prevents deviation beyond planned boundaries, keeping every move precise and controlled.

Dr Mehta brings advanced fellowship training from Canada and England, strengthening this precision-led approach. Robotic hip replacement is now available closer to home for patients across North India.

Dr Harsimran Singh, Director – Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement at Fortis Hospital Mohali, has achieved a remarkable milestone: 1500+ robotic total knee replacements on the CORI (Smith+Nephew) robotic platform – the highest number reported by a single surgeon in India.

This distinction comes on top of his pioneering work in computer‑navigated knee replacement using the B. Braun navigation system, where he also holds one of the largest series in the country, of over 30,000 knee replacement surgeries. What truly sets Dr Harsimran apart is not just the numbers, but his commitment to transparency and precision: every patient receives a detailed chart of the corrections made by the robot or navigation system, providing objective proof that advanced technology was actually used to optimise alignment, balance and implant positioning – not just marketed.

At Fortis Mohali, we are proud to have a surgeon who combines high volumes with honest, data‑driven practice and consistently excellent clinical outcomes for patients with knee arthritis. Heartiest congratulations to Dr Harsimran Singh and the entire Joint Replacement Team on crossing this 1500+ robotic knees milestone – and on setting a new benchmark for ethical, evidence‑based robotic surgery in India.

Recurring pilonidal sinus can be both painful and disruptive, often impacting day-to-day comfort and quality of life. Advancements in minimally invasive care, such as laser therapy, are now offering patients a more effective and less disruptive path to recovery.

Dr. Atul Sharma Joshi, Director – General Surgery at Fortis Mohali, shares insights on how laser treatment helps manage pilonidal sinus with greater precision, reduced discomfort, and faster healing, especially in cases of recurrence.

A modern approach focused on lasting relief and improved patient outcomes.

But is India still struggling with it?

Many countries have reduced the impact of this disease, yet a preventable and curable illness continues to affect lives across the country. Once diagnosed, taking medications exactly as prescribed is essential to prevent drug resistance and ensure recovery.

Tuberculosis is both preventable and treatable, yet it continues to claim thousands of lives every year.

The challenge is no longer about the availability of treatment, but about awareness, early diagnosis and completing the full course of care. Once diagnosed, taking medications exactly as prescribed is essential to prevent drug resistance and ensure recovery.

TBDiscussed – Strengthening conversations around TB helps reduce preventable loss of life.

Growth and progress should improve the way we live, not compromise the way we breathe. Yet tuberculosis continues as an airborne disease that affects millions across the country.

While incidence rates have declined over the years, the challenge is far from over. Strengthening awareness, recognising symptoms early and ensuring timely treatment remain critical steps in reducing its impact.

TBDiscussed - Bringing the conversation forward is the first step toward stronger public health action.

Cities are growing faster than ever. But with rising density, pollution and strained urban infrastructure, respiratory health risks are also increasing.

Tuberculosis remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in India, accounting for a significant share of global cases. Addressing it requires awareness, timely testing and completion of treatment.

TBDiscussed - The conversation around TB must move beyond stigma and silence to informed action.

Some habits feel routine, so we forget their value. Brushing your teeth may seem simple, but it protects your smile every day.

Like fastening a seatbelt, it’s a small step that prevents bigger problems later. Staying consistent keeps your teeth strong over time.

This World Oral Health Day, treat it as protection, not just habit. Strap in your smile.

Seeing beyond labels begins with something simple: empathy.
On World Down Syndrome Day, it is a reminder to notice, include, and connect with intention. Whether it is inviting someone in, speaking directly, or simply acknowledging their presence, small actions can create a meaningful sense of belonging.

Because inclusion is not just an idea, it is a choice we make every day.
