REMEDY OF THE DAY: GELSENIUM SEMPERVIRENS
Dr. Bhatia V.R., Influenza and its homeopathic treatment
Influenza: Insidious onset, temperature not very high, drowsy,
headache. the remedy is similar to Pulsatilla and the
difference is that Puls. has digestive upset(vomiting, nausea,
anorexia, pain in abdomen, loose motions) and Gel. has no
gastric concomitants with fever, thirstless in both remedies
during fever and both drowsy. The Gels. patient will say
"cannot get well after "flue" a few weeks ago", they probably
have little fever, with chilly sensation, with heats and chills,
limbs feel weak and heavy, heavy eyelids, and gels will
bring them back to normal
Dullness, drowsiness, dizziness, dim sight, delirium
characterize Gels. patient. He is sensitive to falling barometer.
cold and dampness bring on complaints. NO THIRST.
headache is mot of the nape of the neck upwards to occiput
goes to eyes and settles there. Coryza with violent sneezing
fits in the morning. Right nostril stopped, discharge watery
and excoriating. Sore throat felt at upper part of left nostril.
Continuous accumulation of irritating mucus about the throat
hard painful cough, swallowing causes shooting in the ears.
Hand may tremble, chills pass up and down the back, and
no thirst during fever, pain on moving eyes, wants to be
alone, feels ameliorated from sweat. Faints if there is
annoying him to anger. Good in epidemics of flue if there is
a similar picture. if heart is involved, think of it. and also
Gels. patient thinks that unless he is on the constant move
his heart will stop beating.
So when the patient is developing the typical influenza, over
six to eight hours. the patient fells a little out of sorts of the
day before, possibly a little headachy, feverish, with indefinite
pain, with a little catarrhal, goes to bed, does not sleep well
and next morning feels rotten
Gel. develops its symptoms fairly slow, primarily a feeling of
intense wariness. dull and tired, heavy, sleepy, to be left in
peace, but sleepless at night, in spite their toxic state.
Think of gels. in constipation or paralysis with lack of muscular
coordination
Gels agg. in damp weather, before a thunderstorm, mental
emotion or excitement, bad news, to***co smoking of his
ailments, when spoken to of his loss.
Adapted to children, young people, women of a nervous
hysterical temperament, irritable, sensitive, onanist, both sexes.
