Prayatan A Mental Health Movement Chandigarh vide 3163 of 2004, under Societies Act. Prayatan also endeavors to extend help to such families in case of mental crisis.

Prayatan, an NGO, a Non profit Charitable Organization of Self Help Group of families of mentally ill patients and also people who wish to help such cause, was formed as a society in 2001 and registered with U.T. Prayatan's aim is to create awareness about the scientific basis of mental illness so that the patients seek treatment from mental health professionals at an early date. Prayatan has also been working for homeless mentally ill as well as for families who have limited social support. Prayatan has been providing free medicines to the poor psychiatric patients, providing vocational training, gainful employment, Day Care facilities and also assisting in temporary residence facilities for destitute and home based treatment for those not coming to hospitals. It has been able to rehabilitated many such patients and made them capable of earnings their livelihood for their self dependence since inception. The long term goal of Prayatan is to create Psycho-social Rehabilitation facilities for the persons with various types of Psychiatric Disorders and a permanent home, with reasonably good facilities for the patients who do not
have any body to look after.

On 21-10-2025 we celebrated Diwali at Prayatan home Sampla with inmates, as good will gestures as well as celebrated as an important festival/occassion falls. As a Diwali gift we paid Rs. 500/- each to the emploees working at home Sampla and kiosks at PGI and Bus terminus sector 17 Chandigarh. Sweets and snacks were also distributed to inmates. Pics are attached below.
