Clinical Series | Sclero-corneal Cyst

Sclero-corneal cysts in children can be challenging to manage, especially when they are multiloculated or extend deep into the stroma. In this case, cyst excision with lamellar keratoplasty restored clarity and structure with an excellent outcome.

A key surgical principle in such cysts is ensuring complete removal of the epithelial lining, which significantly reduces the risk of recurrence. Although chemical ablation may be considered in some situations, the size and configuration of this cyst made surgical excision the preferred approach.

It was a privilege for CODE Eye Care, that our Medical Director Dr Geetha Iyer lead the 1st Boston Keratoprosthesis (KPro) Type II surgery in the Middle East Region, performed at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH), Riyadh, under the lead guidance of Dr. Mohammed Ali Ahad.

The patient, who had lived with blindness for 15 years, experienced the profound joy of seeing faces clearly on Day 1 and reading 20/60 on Day 2 - moments that made this achievement truly meaningful.

Our Medical Director, Dr Geetha Iyer, was honored with the Dr Vidya Ravi Memorial Award at the National Conference on Advances in Burns Treatment, Trichy for her contribution to eradication of corneal blindness through epithelial regeneration.

The meeting was co-conducted along with the Indian Stem Cell Study Group under the current leadership of Dr V R Ravi.
She also delivered a well-received lecture on Ocular Burns - Regenerating the Lost Epithelium.
