A 72-year-old woman arrived at MGM Healthcare Malar, Adyar with severe intestinal bleeding, a potentially life-threatening condition. Our team acted swiftly to identify the exact source of the bleed using advanced imaging.

The Interventional Radiology and Hepatology teams performed a minimally invasive procedure called super-selective embolization using gelfoam and microcoils to precisely block the bleeding vessel without the need for open surgery.

This approach not only controlled the bleeding effectively but also helped preserve normal bowel function and ensured a quicker recovery.

Knee pain is highly prevalent among the elderly, often affecting mobility, independence, and overall quality of life. Age-related wear and tear, arthritis, reduced muscle strength, and lifestyle factors contribute to this condition, making timely awareness, prevention, and management essential.

The session featured Dr. Shriram Krishnamoorthy, Senior Consultant – Department of Orthopaedics; Dr. Manicka Saravanan S, Consultant – Department of Geriatric Medicine; and Mr. Kasinathan, Senior Dietician, who shared valuable insights on managing knee pain through a multidisciplinary approach.

Participants also experienced a guided Chair Pilates session focused on improving flexibility, strength, and joint mobility.

MGM Healthcare Malar Adyar performed a rare congenital lung condition known as bronchopulmonary sequestration in a one year old child using Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) a minimally invasive technique. The condition diagnosed during fetal development involves a non functional portion of the lung with an abnormal blood supply that can lead to serious complications if left untreated.

The child was closely monitored and at the appropriate age underwent a carefully planned surgical procedure in which the affected lower lobe of the lung was removed with precision by our expert multidisciplinary team.

The procedure was completed successfully and the child recovered well being shifted out of the ICU within hours and discharged within three days.

This surgery reflects our commitment to advanced paediatric care and our focus on minimally invasive techniques that enable faster recovery and improved patient outcomes.

MGM Healthcare Malar, Adyar successfully treated a 71-year-old gentleman with severe benign prostatic enlargement who had been on long-term catheterization.

The patient also had severe aortic stenosis, placing him at extremely high cardiac risk for surgery.

Due to this condition, multiple centers had advised continued catheterization and deferred surgical intervention.
After detailed evaluation, the patient was carefully optimized by our experienced cardiology, urology and anesthesia teams.

Dr. Vasantharaja Ramasamy, Senior Consultant – Urology, Uro-Oncology and Robotic Surgery, along with the multidisciplinary ICU team, meticulously planned and performed the Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (LEP). The procedure was completed safely with stable cardiac parameters throughout.

The catheter was removed 48 hours after surgery, and his two-month follow-up showed good urinary flow.

This case highlights how advanced laser technology and multidisciplinary teamwork can safely restore quality of life even in complex, high-risk patients.

MGM Healthcare Malar, Adyar successfully performed a life-saving liver transplant on an 8-month-old infant suffering from severe liver complications, offering the child a renewed chance at life.

Diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and Extrahepatic Biliary Atresia, the infant was in critical condition with multiple complications including ascites, recurrent infections, jaundice, and poor weight gain, making urgent intervention essential.

The child’s father stepped forward as a living donor, enabling the multidisciplinary transplant team to carry out this highly complex procedure with precision and care.

Despite the challenges associated with performing a transplant on such a young and underweight patient, the surgery was meticulously planned and executed by our multivisceral and abdominal organ transplant, anaesthesiologists, and critical care teams.

The child has recovered and is doing well.
