ÅarÄ«ra Saį¹yama | Series ā 1
āWhen the mind is involved in the practice, the practitioner becomes totally absorbed with the posture,ā ÅrÄ« T Krishnamacharya.
Äsana serves as the foundational entry point to the Yoga journey. Within this discipline, breath plays a crucial and transformative role. By linking the mind and body, breath facilitates the cultivation of profound awareness and equilibrium.
In the words of ÅrÄ« TKV Desikachar, āBreath is the intelligence of the body.ā It is the breath that acts as an intrinsic guide, directly reflecting oneās mental state and providing a pathway for deeper physical embodiment. Consequently, breath coordination is recognised as an indispensable element in every Äsana practice in the KYM tradition.

Modern medical research is increasingly highlighting the gut-brain axis, the importance of the gut biome, the impact of unprocessed emotions on gut health and the combined implications of these on the autonomous nervous system.
It is this indeed of great significance that both Yoga and Äyurveda have stressed on the importance of SamÄgni as an indicator of holistic wellness at all dimensions. Äyurveda interventions prioritize the stabilization and efficient functioning of the Jaį¹harÄgni. Yoga practices, be it Äsana, PrÄį¹ÄyÄma, BhÄvana or DhyÄnam also centre the PrÄį¹aāApÄna dialogue mediated by the Jaį¹harÄgni.
KYM is delighted to partner with I-AIM to bring to you a hybrid programme that commences with an online study of the gut-brain axis as seen through the lens of Yoga and Äyurveda, culminating in an in person retreat at I-AIM Bengaluru, in which participants experience the first hand the integration of Äyurvedic treatments and Yoga practices. Please note that the details of the in-person retreat will be shared separately and payment for the same will also have to be made separately.
This 100 plus hours course offers participants an opportunity to study each Sutra at depth, also weaving together essential teachings from VyÄsabhÄį¹£yam, along with several other sub commentaries and independent commentaries including ÅrÄ« Krishnamacharyaās YogavallÄ« and the interpretations of ÅrÄ« TKV Desikachar.
The first two chapters of the YogasÅ«tra immersion was offered online and will be available on KYMās Learning Management Tool for those interested in studying.
The tentative schedule for third chapter is as follows:
Chapter ā III | Nov 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, Dec 1, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 2025, Jan 5, 7, 12, 19, 21 & 28, 2026
The course will be taught by Nrithya Jagannathan, Director, KYM Institute of Yoga Studies.
This course would equip teachers of Yoga with the necessary knowledge to thoroughly understand and also teach the Yogasūtra to others.
