The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres is a non-profit organization named after Swami Sivananda, one of the most influential spiritual teachers of the 20th century and founded by his disciple Swami Vishnudevananda. All are welcome to come to our ashrams and centres to learn not only about how yoga can help maintain a healthy body but also how yogic philosophy, applied in daily life, can help maintain a peaceful mind and spirit. In 1957, Swami Vishnudevananda on instructions from his guru, Swami Sivananda, came to the West to bring the teachings of yoga. He established the first Sivananda Yoga Vedanta centre in Montreal, Canada, in 1959 and to date there are close to 60 Sivananda locations (ashrams, yoga centres and affiliated centres) around the world. Over 26,000 teachers have been trained in the TTC programs. The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashrams and Centres are recognized worldwide for teaching yoga authentically, preserving its purity and tradition dating back several thousand years. They also offer a wide range of programs and even the possibility for spiritual growth through Karma yoga as a temporary or full time staff program participant. Swami Vishnudevananda made the yogic teachings understandable and available to all by simplifying them into five points, showing specific ways to develop physical and mental health as well as spiritual growth through ~ Proper Exercise (Asanas), Proper Breathing (Pranayama), Proper Relaxation (Savasana), Proper Diet (vegetarian), Positive Thinking (Vedanta) and Meditation (Dhyana). Together with Swami Sivananda's revival of the yoga of synthesis tradition, which integrates the four paths of Yoga (Karma, Bhakti, Raja, Jnana), a well-balanced Sadhana (spiritual discipline) is achievable by those sincerely seeking for a change in their lives.

Mark your calendars!

From December 2026 to December 2027 we celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Swami Vishnudevananda ji Maharaj and we invite you to be a part of it.
We are excited to announce events planned for each month of that year, culminating in Swamiji's birthday celebration on December 31, 2027. To honour Swamiji's teachings and life's work we plan to realise his vision for a Sivananda teacher in each district of India and an Affiliated Centre in each state.

Our Guru Swami Vishnudevanandaji started his journey in the west, as directed by his guru Swami Sivananda. His vision was to bring the ancient and traditional teachings of Yoga and Meditation into every home and each individual to create peace and happiness. However, he always maintained a dream to bring yoga to everyone in his motherland. During his lifetime Swamiji successfully founded centres and ashrams which are now thriving with activities for spiritual seekers.

We are now trying to realise his dream of providing greater access to yoga within India by appointing Sivananda teachers in each district and Affiliated Centres in each state of India. We invite all Sivananda Teachers and close devotees from different parts of India to help us identify teachers and Affiliated Centres using your present connections within the community. As a first step we have started a Teachers' Directory at: teachers.sivanandayoga.org/centres , and now we are partnering with Geton.Yoga to facilitate this opportunity for eligible Teachers.

🌸 NAVARATRI FOR EVERYONE! 🌸

Navratri is a time of immense spiritual energy and transformation. These nine days are perfect for deep relaxation, meditation, and connecting with your inner self. Don’t feel like you have to leave your daily responsibilities, but consider adjusting your routine with these simple tips:

👉 1. Meditate Daily – The energy during Navratri makes meditation even more powerful. You’ll feel the difference! Chant your “Ishta Mantra” if you’re inclined toward Japa.
👉 2. Talk Less – Embrace silence. Speak only what’s necessary and observe your inner thoughts. The more silence, the greater the benefits.
👉 3. Eat Balanced – Fasting isn’t mandatory. But, if you can, try fruits and milk. Keep your digestive system relaxed by eating light, healthy meals on time.
👉 4. Listen to Mantras – Surround yourself with sacred chants. Play them at home, during work, or while relaxing. Let the vibrations sink in.
👉 5. Attend or Perform Homas – Participate in any Homa or Hawan during these nine days, especially the last three. You can even perform these ceremonies at home.
👉 6. Stay Clean – Maintain personal hygiene. Bathe every day, wear clean clothes, and create a sacred space around you.
👉 7. Recite Sacred Verses – Chant powerful mantras like the Devi Suktam, Shri Suktam, and verses from Durga Saptasati to connect with the Divine Mother.
👉 8. Protect Your Space – If you’re diving deep into meditation or long recitations, make sure your space remains undisturbed to maintain the sacred energy.

Remember, the Divine Mother Durga is the consciousness residing within you – not just in idols or temples. Everything around you is Her manifestation. “Sarvam Shakti Mayam Jagat” – All is an expression of the Divine Mother!

Weekend Warrior(ONLINE): Asana Variations for Intermediate & Advanced Students

For those who wish to go beyond the basics, we are introducing Weekend Warrior—a thoughtfully designed online programme for intermediate and advanced students.

Conducted live via Zoom, the sessions will explore refined variations of classical asanas(Sivananda Style), helping participants build strength, enhance flexibility, and deepen focus under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Beginning September 13, 2025, the programme will be held every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 11:30 am IST.

The contribution is ₹600 per weekend (two sessions), or ₹500 per single session. Extended packages for multiple weekends are also available.

🌞 108 Surya Namaskar Challenge 🌞
July 20th, 2014 |
There are mornings that leave an imprint far beyond the mat. July 20th, 2014 was one of those days. ✨

The Chennai Centre came alive before sunrise mats rolling out, soft chatter filling the air, and then, silence as 108 Surya Namaskars began. Movement after movement, breath after breath, we carried each other through. Some paused, some pushed on, but the spirit was one: steady, collective, unshakable.
And when the final round was done, what followed was just as special laughter echoing across the hall, familiar faces gathered close, and simple breakfast shared like prasadam. 🥣💛

Looking back nearly 12 years later, it feels less like an event and more like a family memory one of those mornings that defined our journey together.

🌿 The most beautiful part? After our construction is complete, we’ll be bringing back these gatherings mornings of practice, strength, and togetherness. We can’t wait to welcome you back.
