Abacus: What is abacus?
The abacus also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool that was in use centuries before the adoption of the written modern numeral system and is still widely used by merchants, traders and clerks in Asia, Africa, and elsewhere.
How do students benefit out of this?
Recent studies have shown that the abacus method of mental calculation is effective in the development of the right brain. At first, this idea was only a hypothesis, but the recent development of high-tech machinery has helped provide tangible research data. The first effect is improvement of numerical memory. The second is improvement of memory in spatial arrangement. The third is progress in solving general mathematical problems taught in elementary school, including the four fundamental arithmetic calculations and word problems.
Which abacus center to choose: There are many companies, their franchisees, individuals teaching abacus to kids.
Choose the correct one for your kid. Talk to children who go to those classes. find out if they are happy, then admit your child.
Talk to the teacher. See if she can explain the benefits of abcus to you in simple words. Find out how many years of experience she has in the field. Because many teachers start teaching without proper training and expertise.
It generally takes 3 -4 years to complete program. in other words your child's brain needs the stimulation for that amount of period.
The ideal age to start abacus is 5 -6 years.
abacus is being promoted by many companies as mental math classes. To some extent it is true. Because solving problems quickly is a add on benefit of this program. But the truth is different. Abacus classes are more like your gym training. At the Gym you train your body. Abacus trains your brain.
