|Hello from Smiles|
Just know it...!
Tactile Sensory issue:
In brief... It’s a common symptom with Kids on Autism Spectrum or Neuro- Developmental issues..! Where the kids’ finds it difficult to determine/interpret characteristics of sensory stimuli that is felt on the skin or tend to interpret higher level visual / spatial characteristics of touch (includes stereognosis and graphesthesia disorders)
It’s usually mild to severe and often leads to tactile oversensitivity which further results in delayed development of fine motor and gross motor skills.
Here are few examples these kids may exhibit..!
1. Dislike being touched or cuddled by others; pull away from being touched or held by others
2. Distressed when people are near, even when they are not touching (e.g., standing nearby, crowds)
3. Avoid touching certain textures; hate getting hands messy (e.g., fun cooking, art projects)
4. Like firm touch best and may enjoy activities in which there is intense high contact (e.g., rock climbing)
5. Prefer touch from familiar people.
6. Dislike having hair washed and getting haircut from a salon.
7. Prefer long sleeves and pants even in warm weather, or prefer as little clothing as possible, even when it is cool.
8. May hit others and be aggressive in touching others
9. Have a strong preference for certain food textures (e.g., only firm and crunchy or only soft)
10. Self-harm (e.g., cutting, scratching)
Most of the kids with tactile oversensitivity could be reversed by Integrated Naturopathic interventions within relatively short span of time.
At Smiles, after a thorough understanding of the underlying issues pertaining to the kid, we could bring about a significant change in the kids suffering from Tactile-sensory issues.
