Eating local is a revolutionary zero waste act. It is the answer we seek for healthy people and healthy planet.

What do you call these foods in your language? Please type the names in the comments section.

We are blessed with a wide agroecological diversity in the Himalaya and celebrating these food cultures is key to our well-being.

The Himalayan Cleanup has consistently shown how we are eating more and more ultra processed and hyper packaged food and trash these problematic plastic immediately. More than 80% of plastic recovered in THC is from food and beverage packaging with over 70% of it none reclyable.

Eating local and unpackaged is to free ourselves from Big Food and the Himalayan waste crisis.

Celebrating local food cultures is celebrating biodiversity, the basis of life.

Parents workshops on Child Mental Health are being conducted in 81 partnering schools of TeaLeaf Mansik Swastha in Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong, and Gorubathan. The workshops cover topics such as, understanding a child's expression and experience of sadness, anxiety, and aggression, along with providing tools for parents to handle them with care. Additionally, the importance of parental mental health and its crucial role in child mental health care are also being discussed.
These workshops for parents and caregivers enhance our approach of shifting the responsibility of mental health delivery to teachers.

Did you know 90% of your sanitary pad/napkin is made of PLASTIC ?

As we move ahead with the Maasika Mahotsav week reclaiming public spaces and having more conversations on sustainable menstrual practices we also talk about what’s in the sanitary pads that is most commonly used worldwide. The chemicals and plastic used in the sanitary pads which are marketed as “fragrant and convenient” are in reality harmful not just for a menstruator’s health but also our environment.

The Maasika Mahotsav this week also goes hand in hand with the Himalayan Clean Up. Henceforth we also look at menstrual practices from a waste perspective.

The above images are from conversations with Swachh Sayogis and Panchayat of Phademchen, Sikkim where we talked about sustainable menstruation and also visit their Material Recovery Facility (MRF). We were there thanks to the invitation of WWF

Engagement with parents or caregivers while working on child mental health is a priority for us.

The Tealeaf team has been conducting workshops on understanding children’s emotions and behaviour with parents and caregivers in all the Tealeaf partner schools.

As we widen our engagements we also aim to reach out to a larger community or Samaj in the near future.
